Detroit Tigers catcher Victor Martinez doesn't need reconstructive surgery for his anterior ligament.Martinez had microfracture surgery in January to have the medial and lateral meniscus in his left knee repaired. He was expected to require an additional operation for his ACL, but Dr. Richard Steadman deemed it wouldn't be necessary.Manager Jim Leyland said it's "as good a news as (Martinez) could have got."The team is hopeful Martinez can return to play late this season, although a timetable has not been set for his return.The 33-year-old has a follow-up MRI scheduled for July.Martinez batted. 330 with 12 homers and 103 RBIs in 2011 for the Tigers.
