Righty Doug Fister, nearing the first anniversary of his acquisition by Detroit, flashed some of his 2011

second-half form Friday night with a three-hit, seven-inning outing at Baltimore. "Dougie was good,"

manager Jim Leylandl said. "They ****** quite a few balls off him; his curve ball really saved him a lot.

We made some good defensively, especially Quintin Berry." Leyland has talked of Fister's struggles (three

wins, one on the road) and feels his two terms on the disabled list have reduced his strength. "That's why

we came out with him the first game of the second half," Leyland said. "Some of the guys over there have

pretty good numbers against him. But you know, I just felt he needs to get out there and pitch. Build it

up. I wanted to show a little confidence in him." "I felt better with my location," Fister said. "I was

focused on keeping the ball down and moving in and out on hitters." "He had late movement," Leyland said,

"movement at the right time. When you're seeing that, it's usually a pretty good sign."
