Sabathia, Granderson lead Yankees past Tigers

DETROIT -- CC Sabathia may not be overpowering anymore, but Curtis Granderson still is. Sabathia mixed his pitches like the smooth veteran operator he is through seven innings Friday night and Granderson belted a second-inning grand slam that gave New York a jump-start on the runs it needed to post a 9-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers. Manager Joe Girardi tried to get through...

Sabathia shuts down Tigers for seventh win

CC Sabathia has been the rock in the inconsistent New York Yankees starting rotation, regularly pitching deep into games and easing the load on a bullpen that's been thinned by the injuries to Mariano Rivera and David Robertson. But after requiring 39 pitches to get through the third inning Friday night against the Tigers, the idea of his getting through seven innings seemed...

Angels' bats go quiet late in loss to Yankees

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Curtis Granderson and Robinson Cano homered during New York's five-run third inning, Rafael Soriano retired Mark Trumbo on a broken-bat flyout to end it, and the Yankees snapped the Los Angeles Angels' eight-game winning streak with a 6-5 victory Wednesday night. Stakes even higher for trades this year

The Brewers were more than willing to trade two top prospects for left-hander CC Sabathia in July 2008, and not simply because they were getting one of the best pitchers in the game. No, the Brewers also knew that they could possibly replace the youngsters -- first baseman Matt LaPorta and outfielder Michael Brantley -- with the two high draft picks they would collect if Sabathia...

Yankees-Tigers Preview

CC Sabathia has lost all three regular-season starts at Comerica Park with the New York Yankees, who also dropped the playoff game he started there last season. Sabathia should be favored Friday night in the opener of this three-game set when Casey Crosby makes his major-league debut on the mound for the Detroit Tigers. The Yankees ace is 0-3 with a 6.00 ERA in three regular-season...

Bombers Getting Bombed: A Look at the Yankees’ Inability to Keep Opponents in the Yard

Around this time last year, there was a patently absurd notion pervading coverage of the New York Yankees. Writers, bloggers and radio hosts were mostly in agreement: The Yankees were hitting all too many home runs. At the time, I did a full analysis of the situation, and determined that these home runs were not being paid for with extra outs, essentially making them upgraded singles...
