The Tigers head into Kansas City tonight looking to continue their dominance over a Royals team that has overtaken the Cleveland Indians for third place in the AL Central.
In his first return to Kauffman Stadium since the All-Star Game where he was tagged for five first-inning runs in an 8-0 loss to the NL on July 10th, Justin Verlander seeks his 13th win of the season and to continue his own dominance over Kansas City. The 12-7 Verlander currently has a 2.50 ERA and is 14-2 with a 2.36 ERA in 21 starts in the series.
Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera also makes his return to the Detroit lineup after being held out Sunday with a sore ankle and DHing the game prior.
For Kansas City, they will counter with right hander Luis Mendoza (7-9, 4.26) who had won back-t0-back starts before walking four in his last outing in a 5-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.
Mendoza however has won three straight home starts and the Royals have won six of seven at Kauffman Stadium.
