The Detroit Tigers' superstar could have rested the final few days of the season.  He could have sat out more than he was forced to.  However, Miguel Cabrera decided it was better for him to stay focused and to set an example for his teammates.  So, he played through an abdominal injury that severely limited him over the final month of the season.  He pushed through the pain so that he would be prepared for the playoffs. Now, says Jason Beck of MLB.com, Cabrera is ready for the playoffs and hopes the injury concerns are behind him.  It's easy for players to take time off and cruise toward the end of the season once the division is wrapped up, but Cabrera did not want to get rusty. "Eight days, that's too many days off," Cabrera said over the weekend, bracing for the best-of-five AL Division Series against the A's beginning in Oakland on Friday at 9:37 p.m. ET on TBS. "We want to be ready for the playoffs. That's why everybody sees me in the lineup. I want to play the same way I play before, so let's get some at-bats and be ready for the playoffs." The Tigers will travel to Oakland to take on the A's in the Coliseum on Friday night, and Cabrera will be ready.  The Tigers made it all the way to the World Series last year, but they couldn't get past the San Francisco Giants.  Detroit has been so close on many occasions.  They're ready to get over the hump. Cabrera should be able to provide some assistance there.  Generally considered the best hitter in baseball, Cabrera put up number BETTER than his Triple Crown season from a year ago.  This year, Cabrera finished by hitting .348/.442/.636 on the season.  He clubbed 44 home runs to mach his total from a year ago as well. Cabrera's health a concern for Tigers

That sweet swing is still there. No matter how banged up Miguel Cabrera has been, he's always a threat to hit the ball where nobody can catch it. It's the rest of his duties that have looked more and more painful. Those jogs out of the batter's box became progressively slower - and although Cabrera helped the Detroit Tigers win the AL Central for a third straight year...

Detroit Tigers will win it all, here’s why

At 9:37 eastern time on Friday night, the Detroit Tigers will finally kick off their much anticipated playoff run. They’ll start by playing in the rowdy house that Billy Beane built. Beane’s Oakland A’s are favored by many to knock off the Tigers in the ALDS best of 5 series. I think not. Yes, the Tigers’ offense has sagged as Miguel Cabrera’s power has dipped due to injury...

Cabrera's health concerns Tigers

Scherzer to start ALDS opener

DETROIT The suspense is over. Detroit Tigers right-hander Max Scherzer will start Game 1 of the American League Division Series against the Athletics in Oakland on Friday at 9:37 p.m. EST. Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Tuesday that Justin Verlander will start Game 2 on Saturday night, while Anibal Sanchez pitches Game 3 in Detroit on Monday and Doug Fister goes in Game 4 on...

Jose Iglesias' skills vital to Tigers' postseason

DETROIT -- There's plenty to like about Detroit Tigers rookie shortstop Jose Iglesias. With a .303 batting average, he led all American League rookies. He turns the plays that will someday make him a Gold Glove contender, and his 25 infield hits led the league. Iglesias, 23, is a strong contender for AL Rookie of the Year, along with Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Wil Myers, Rays...

Tigers' rotation a pat hand

DETROIT -- If pitching rotations were a poker hand, the Detroit Tigers would be holding three aces and two kings. Anibal Sanchez, Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander each are bonafide No. 1 starters. And Doug Fister and Rick Porcello are hurlers on the rise who combined for 27 wins this season. It could be argued that Detroits starting rotation is or could soon become the games...

Cabrera wins 3rd straight AL batting title

Miguel Cabrera happily settled for a single crown. The Detroit Tigers slugger fell short in his bid to become the first player to win the Triple Crown in successive seasons. But Cabrera clinched his third batting title in a row, finishing with a .348 average after sitting out Sunday's regular-season finale at Miami - a no-hitter by the Marlins' Henderson Alvarez. Now Cabrera...

Local MLB TV Ratings: Tigers Lead the Way Again, Cards Second

For the second straight year, the Detroit Tigers led all Major League Baseball teams in local TV ratings. Fox Sports Detroit averaged a 9.59 rating for Tigers games during the 2013 regular season, up 4% […]

AL Playoff Preview: Oakland A`s At Detroit Tigers

Playoff Preview: Oakland v. A`s Background: These two dynamic teams aren`t strangers to the post-season, or to each other. Rewind back to last year where we found both teams in the exact same position. Oakland held home field advantage while Detroit came in as the Central Division champions. The teams were, and currently are, constructed in opposite designs. The Tigers are built...

Jose Iglesias Is FN's 2013 Rookie Of The Year

(Ezra Shaw/Getty Images)It's tough enough to give an award to a player wearing different laundry. It's even tougher when that player might contribute to a playoff defeat for the Red Sox in a few short weeks. But, the editors of FenwayNation really had no other choice but to make Joe Iglesias our 2013 Rookie Of The Year. In 63 games for The Carmine Hose, Iglesias pretty much...

VIDEO: Jim Leyland moonwalks with Michael Jackson impersonator

So apparently the AL Central clincher wasn’t the first time Tigers manager Jim Leyland broke out the moonwalk. MLB Fan Cave recently put together this video montage of some of the best dance moves of the 2013 season. Joaquin Benoit made it, Miguel Cabrera made it but it was Jim Leyland who caught my attention at least with his now signature moonwalk. Except this time he was performing...

Talkin’ Tigers Week in Review: Momentum or Not, Detroit Tigers Face Tough Road Against Oakland

The Detroit Tigers made the worst kind of history a team can make on Sunday afternoon; the kind that they have all by themselves. After being no-hit Sunday during a 1-0 loss to the Miami Marlins, they were the first playoff bound team in the history of baseball to be no-hit in the season’s final game. With the division championship wrapped up long ago, Detroit didn’t play their...

Tigers-Athletics in ALDS again

The Tigers (93-69) will face a fairly familiar foe in the A's (96-66) when the American League Division Series begins Friday. Unfortunately for the Tigers, the series will start in Oakland this time. Last year, due to a scheduling oddity caused by holding additional wild-card games for the first time, the ALDS was a 2-3 affair, with two games in the lower seed's park and...

Who Will Be On The A's ALDS Roster?

The Oakland A's will take on the Detroit Tigers in the American League Division Series starting on Friday. But who will be on their 25-man roster? We take a look at the decisions the A's will have to make before announcing their ALDS roster.

The Miami Marlins Pulled Off The Strangest No-Hitter Against The Detroit Tigers

(via Getty Image)The Miami Marlins scored a 1-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers yesterday to keep their season loss total at an even 100, and that’s a positive because finishing with exactly 100 losses would be a pretty cool feat. Obviously, nobody wants their team to lose 100 games in a season, but I’m just trying to be an optimist for the several dozen Marlins that still actually...
