Tigers release LHP Wilk, heads to Korean team

The Detroit Tigers have released left-hander Adam Wilk and sent left-hander Matt Hoffman outright to Triple-A Toledo. The Tigers say they let Wilk go after selling his contract to a team from the Korean Baseball League. Wilk went 0-3 with an 8.18 ERA in three starts for the Tigers in 2012, spending most of the season in the minors. He turned 25 earlier this month. Hoffman spent...

Tigers Rumors: Detroit Listening on Drew Smyly

While it’s been reported that the Detroit Tigers are expected to trade starting pitcher Rick Porcello following the signing of Anibal Sanchez, the club is also “taking calls” on left-hander Drew Smyly, reports Danny Knobler of CBS Sports. Tigers are taking calls on Smyly as well as Porcello. Not committed to trading either one, but with tons of interest, I'm guessing...

Detroit Tigers Rumors: Pittsburgh Pirates Interested in Rick Porcello

The Detroit Tigers might move Rick Porcello before the 2013 season begins, but the Pittsburgh Pirates will have to sweeten the pot if they want to add the young right-hander. From Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: #Pirates are interested in Porcello, but Tigers don’t want straight-up swap for Hanrahan — Rob Biertempfel (@BiertempfelTrib) December 19, 2012 The...

MMO Mailbag: Should We Target Detroit’s Drew Smyly?

I received this e-mail from Hitman: What do you think about the possibility of bringing in Drew Smyly of the Tigers? I’ve already touched up previously in a few comments about his great breaking stuff and if you haven’t seen a highlight video of his from the 2012 season on Youtube, watch it. You’ll be impressed in what you see. Alderson was talking about bringing in another...

If the Cubs Had “Force Trade” On, They Might Consider Drew Smyly

Among other reports swimming around the interwebs lately, Brett at Bleacher Nation writes a blurb about the Tigers possibly floating both Rick Porcello and Drew Smyly on the trade market: Danny Knobler says the Cubs and Tigers did speak about Rick Porcello, now that he’s expendable, but the two sides didn’t find a fit. The Tigers are alternatively listeningon lefty Drew Smyly...

Podcast: Porcello and Smyly, Avila, Closer

In the latest podcast, the staff discusses the status of both Rick Porcello and Drew Smyly, why the Tigers should consider trading one or the other, but also why it's not a foregone conclusion that one should be moved. Plus, what is the story with Brennan Boesch, what can the Tigers expect from Alex Avila in 2013, and can the Tigers really believe Bruce Rondon will be the closer this year?

Alderson’s Amazin Plan: A Long And Winding Road

2012 saw Miguel Cabrera become the first Triple Crown winner in 45 years. I wonder if Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski has considered trading Cabrera. Surely after putting up numbers like that he could definitely get some good prospects. We had a pitcher once who seemed to be slipping. He was approaching 33, his best years behind him. Over his last two seasons, his ERA rose 26%, his strikeouts...
