Signed to a minor league deal at the start of the season the Tigers have had mixed results from Valverde. Currently the right hander has a 4.15 ERA and three blown saves in just 18 appearances. The Tigers and Valverde have been in this situation before as he struggled badly as the 2012 season came to an end. Valverde was not re-signed over the winter as general manager Dave Dombrowski trusted rookie Bruce Rondon with the job of closing. Before the first month of the season was completed the Tigers had restored Valverde to the closers role.

  • What an abosolute idiot response by Leyland!!! Are you freakin nuts. How many more games do you want to lose before it finally sinks in that he is WAY PAST his prime?? I would hate to be Justin Verlander and pitch 2 freakin GREAT games only to have Velverade lose them!! Really, why not leave Verlander in there?? Oh yea, we are now in the new era where pitchers dont throw complete games and we have relievers who cant get the ball over the plate and when they do.....It's Gone!!!!!
I used to think the easiest job in life was to be a weatherman and be wrong 50% of the time and still keep my job but this is a new era and now I know that I would LOVE to be a RELief PITCHER FOR THE DETROIT TIGERs and blow so many saves and then have my boss constantly make FREAKIN excuses for me just to keep me on the team because he feels he has to be loyal to me!! Are you kidding!! REALLY??? UGH...Fire leyland and put Brookens as our new skipper in charge and demote Velvarde and Coke....Better yet.. FIRE THEM for not performing up to standards of doing there jobs just like we would with any American worker who won't or can't do there job correctly!!!!!!
  • what is dumb-broski and leyland thinking nobody can be that stuptid , with the worst record for a first place team ,start fixing the problem.when they bring the jurk out to close i turn the game off.if i was the owner of this team i would step in.
  • Get Valverde the hell out of a Tigers uniform. There's a reason not a single team offered him a contract in the offseason. I'm sick of you too, Leyland. Overrated.
  • This is great news...now Jose can feed the family, live in a nice mansion and drive his exotic cars and live the high life. The fans want him to be happy and wealthy and that is all that matters to the fans.

It is a fact that the players are well underpaid and need to ask for more money for playing a kids game. The owners must empty out their wallets and help these players get richer.

Jose deserves to make the money win or lose because he needs to support the family.
