After a convincing sweep of the injury torn Yankees, the Detroit Tigers will head to the World Series, for the eleventh time in franchise history.  The Tigers put up eight runs against New York on their way to an 8-1 victory.  With Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano benched, the Tigers easily dispatched the offensively dormant Yankees.  After such a convincing season on their way to the Postseason, it’s a shock just how bad the Yankees played in the ALCS, with the Tigers holding them to just one run in the final game.  For Detroit, it’s total satisfaction after multiple playoff runs in the past few years have ended prematurely. While Detroit picked up a couple of quick runs in the first and third innings, they really blew the lid open with a huge bottom of the fourth.  With Omar Infante on base, Miguel Cabrera came to bat and immediately opened up on a huge two-run home run.  That one at bat pretty much put the Yankees Postseason run to bed, but the Tigers weren’t done in the inning.  Jhonny Peralta came to the plate and unleashed a two-run home run of his own, giving Detroit a huge 6-0 lead. The Yankees would pick up a courtesy run in the top of the sixth after a Nick Swisher double brought Eduardo Nunez home.  You can never be too careful with the Yankees, so the Tigers added a couple of more insurance runs in the seventh and eighth, with home runs from Austin Jackson and Jhonny Peralta, who hit his second of the night.  Phil Coke closed the game out for the Tigers, pitching the eighth and ninth innings, completely shutting the Yankees down.  When Prince Fielder caught the final fly ball, Coke emphatically threw his glove to the ground and celebrated with the rest of his team. The Tigers now wait to see who their National League opponent will be in the Fall Classic, as the Cardinals and Giants duke it out in the NLCS.  The series currently sits at 2-1 with St. Louis in front.  Game 4 is tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET on TBS. photo: Associated Press
