The Tigers wasted no time in diagnosing Doug Fister's injury that caused him to leave in the 4th inning of today's 10-0 win over the Boston Red Sox, determining that Fister would miss at least 15 days with a "costochondral strain." With the masses on Twitter having absolutely no idea what the hell costochondral means, I figured I'd put my six figure loan debt...
Detroit right-hander Doug Fister has left Saturday's game against Boston with a strain in his left side.
The Tigers led 2-0 when manager Jim Leyland and trainer Kevin Rand came out to the mound to check on Fister in the middle of an at-bat by Ryan Sweeney. Duane Below came on in relief and got out of the inning.
It was not immediately clear what was wrong with Fister, but the...

The exact injury is being deemed a "left costochondral strain". Fister went 3 2/3 scoreless innings today in Detroit's 10-0 win over the Red...

Apparently our buddy Billy Zane is going to be spending a lot of time in Detroit this season. He showed up on Thursday when Austin Jackson walked it off to open the season, and he makes a triumphant return today after Alex Avila's 2-run homer to give the Tigers a 13-12 extra innings win and series sweep over the Boston Red Sox.

For the second straight season, the Tigers top prospect in the organization is right-hander Jacob Turner. The youngster came into spring camp this season with a chance to win the fifth starter's job in the big league rotation, but a slow starter coupled with tendinitis killed that opportunity. Still, what has the Tigers so excited and optimistic about his future?
DETROIT -- Prince Fielder stood in front of his locker, discussing his first two home runs as a Detroit Tiger. Then Miguel Cabrera -- who had just finished reviewing his own two-homer game -- walked past. "Pow!" Cabrera said playfully. "One, two, three, pow!" Detroit's potent slugging tandem is already finding its groove. Fielder and Cabrera hit two homers...
Alex Avila hit a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning off Mark Melancon as the Detroit Tigers came from behind on two occasions in the late innings to complete a three-game sweep of the Boston Red Sox 13-12.
Miguel Cabrera hit a three-run homer to tie it in the bottom of the ninth and finished with five RBIs and three runs scored for the Tigers.
The Red Sox...

The Tigers get ready for game 2 after a thrilling opening day win on Thursday. Have I mentioned how much I despite the off day after opening day? Though a W makes it a bit easier.
There has been a lot of talk about the Valverde insertion in the 9th. Though I would have loved to see JV get a complete game on opening day, Valverde in the 9th...
Alex Avila's walk-off Sunday swept the Red Sox out of Detroit
It’s been one weekend of baseball for the Boston Red Sox and already the nation is in panic.
On one hand, its understandable. Red Sox fans have been told all off-season that they were going to purge the evils of the collapse of September. That collapse mostly happened because the Red Sox forgot how to pitch a ball...

Former Duluth Huskies pitcher Drew Smyly is the fifth starter in the Detroit Tigers’ pitching rotation as the 2012 Major League Baseball season gets under way.
Smyly, a 6-foot-3 left-hander who played for the Huskies in 2009, will become the first player from the Northwoods League’s 2009 class to appear in the Majors when he joins the Tigers...
Welcome to a new segment we at RBTS like to call, “Boxscore of the Week,” in which we pick out a specific boxscore from either a team or player we feel is the best for that particular week. For the opening weekend of baseball, Detroit Tigers fans were treated to a sweep of the Boston Red
Justin Verlander throws pretty fast. But so does Josh Beckett.Doug Fister (pictured), who starts for Detroit tomorrow, also brings the heat. It's going to be 61 degrees in Detroit tomorrow. Not bad for April, but when the pitches are in the 90s and the air is in the 60s, you have to feel for the hitters.
