Detroit Tigers outfielder Delmon Young spoke before Friday's game against the New York Yankees about his arrest early that morning in New York for a hate crime after attacking a man at Manhattan hotel. Young went on an anti-Semitic tirade toward a pan-handler at the hotel and then confronted a group of four men, police told the New York Post and the Detroit Free Press. "I sincerely regret what happened last night," Young told reporters. "I apologize to everyone I affected, the Ilitch family, the Detroit Tigers' organization, my teammates, my family, and the great Tigers' fans that have supported me since day one. I take this matter very seriously and assure everyone that I will do everything I can to improve myself as a person and player." Young reportedly said vulgar epithets to the panhandler, who was wearing a yarmulke at about 2:30 a.m. Friday.
