San Francisco Giants right-hander Tim Lincecum will be
available in trade this winter, reports Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.
He will be available in
trade, and it will be interesting to see who bites on the two-time Cy Young
Cafardo notes that San Francisco insists the 28-year-old’s troubles
this year were due to mechanics and not injury. However, some around the league
wonder how mechanics could contribute to his loss of control and extreme drop
in velocity. Lincecum’s average fastball dropped from roughly 96 mph to 92.
Also, if the issues are truly mechanical, would the Giants
be so quick to make The Freak available?
Due to his hesitancy to ink a long-term deal, Lincecum has
one year at $22 million remaining on his current contract. Over his first five
seasons with the Giants he maintained an ERA of 2.98 and won two Cy Young
Awards. He posted an ERA of 5.18 over 33 starts this year.
