Decision day is coming for general manager Ken Williams, as the leading man for the blueprint of the White Sox has to decide if adding third baseman Kevin Youkilis and reliever Brett Myers was enough, or if the White Sox need one more piece before the July 31 trade deadline.

With the White Sox enjoying an off day in the wake of a three-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins in which they regained at least a share of first place in the division with Detroit, the White Sox are once again in the wind of the rumor mill, and pitcher Zack Greinke of Milwaukee again is the talk.

In the last week, the White Sox watched starting pitchers Philip Humber and Gavin Floyd come off the 15-day disabled list, while only John Danks remained on the shelf.

Along with Jake Peavy, Chris Sale and rookie standout Jose Quintana, Williams said over the weekend that it appeared to be enough.

"Look at the rotation: Peavy, Quintana, Sale, Floyd, Humber, adding Danks, how crazy do you want to get in pursuit of another starter?" Williams said. "That's not to stay if the right situation comes up and gives us an impact-type guy right now I wouldn't try to make it work."

That guy might be within reach, but the White Sox would likely have to part with a major-league starter in return, meaning Floyd could be one of the pieces of the rotation in a package for Greinke.

It would be an upgrade more than flat-out adding, with Greinke a Cy Young Award winner when he was with Kansas City in 2009, and headed for free agency with Milwaukee after this season.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the White Sox scouted Greinke on Tuesday and are in the argument for his services, along with teams like the Los Angeles Angels, Atlanta Braves and Texas Rangers in their desire to land him before Tuesday's deadline.

Two White Sox sources said it would probably take more than what the farm system has to offer, and that's why Floyd is a logical name to come up.

The players didn't exactly throw their hands up and say "no thanks" to the idea of landing Greinke, either.

"You'd welcome anybody of that caliber," Peavy said of Greinke. "If they think we need something and it's feasible financially in what we'd have to give up, you never know with Kenny. At the same time, we believe in the guys we have."

The good news for Williams? Attendance has picked up, with sellouts on Monday and Tuesday, and then 32,000-plus for a Wednesday day game. The ball is now in Williams' court.
