Colorado Rockies veteran first baseman Todd Helton has decided to make 2013 his last ride. Helton had a horrendous 2012 that was riddled with injuries, a bothersome hip and a torn labrum. That’s a lot to comeback from regardless of age, let alone when you’re 39 like he is. Even so he’s still got that desire to play and wants to give it one last go round. “I am back baby,” Helton said with a laugh. “When you are 39 years old, coming off hip surgery, those things don’t really go good together when you are talking about a baseball player. There was some uncertainty and doubt after last season. But as I got into it, it only fueled my appetite to keep playing and keep getting better.” (Denver Post) Even with that Helton wasn’t sure if a comeback was meant to be. He didn’t want to come back and just play, he wanted to play for a competitive team. A team that had a chance to win. And well new manager Walt Weiss convinced him. “We sat down at breakfast at the Cracker Barrel, where els...

Helton eager to return to everyday role

Colorado Rockies first baseman Todd Helton, who missed considerable time last season, is healthy, working out regularly and doing baseball activities. Helton, who turns 40 in August, played just 69 games in 2012, the fewest in any of his 15 full major league seasons. He underwent surgery Aug. 10 to repair a torn right hip labrum. Helton took batting practice for the second time...

Rockies' Todd Helton Coming Back From Hip Surgery for a 17th Season

There was talk of Todd Helton retiring after he had to undergo hip surgery this past season.  The veteran Colorado Rockies first baseman had played plenty of years, proven all he had to prove.  He could have retired and been proud of what he had done.  But he's not doing that.  He's coming back. According to Thomas Harding of MLB.com, Todd Helton has notified the...

Todd Helton to return for 2013

Todd Helton appears poised to return to the diamond for his 17th season, all with the Colorado Rockies.  Troy Renck of the Denver Post tweeted today: @TroyRenck - Talked to Todd Helton today and said, “I am back, baby.” Was always leaning this direction. Story posted soon. Todd has been significantly slowed down by injuries and age in recent years (only once playing over 125...

MLB had to spend $1.2 million to secure Rockies.com

Until recently when you typed in Rockies.com into a browser, it sent you to a website built specifically to promote the Canadian Rockies. Which makes perfect sense, we guess. But if you were a Colorado Rockies fan or even looking for stats or information on the Rockies, it didn’t make sense that when you typed in the name of the team you went to a website that had nothing to do...

Rockies Sign Manny Corpas to Minor League Deal

Manuel Corpas has close ties to the Colorado Rockies.  He pitched for them for five seasons before eventually being released.  Now, after one season with the Chicago Cubs, the Rockies are giving Corpas another shot.  They have given him a minor league contract. The deal, like many of these minor league contracts for veterans, includes an invite to the big league camp at spring...

Rockies' SS Troy Tulowitzki All The Way Back

When I last reported on Troy Tulowitzki (December 13), the two-time All Star had declared himself 98% ready to play.  Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post reported Tuesday that Tulo is now planning on playing for Joe Torre's Team USA in this springs' World Baseball Classic. The California native is anxious to go out and play.  " I talked with the (Rockies')...
