Yesterday, we looked at the most combined wins in the same year for the Mets and Yankees so today we will look at the worst. No surprise that the 1960s are well represented but it might be a bit of a shock to you that 1962, when the Mets won only 40 games, did not produce the lowest win total. Only four years from outside the 60s make this list and none this century. Here are the Top 10 combined seasons of fewest Mets & Yankees victories. 10. 1963 155 Wins The Mets improved 11 wins from their inaugural season but that still game them just 51 victories. Duke Snider led the team with a 115 OPS+ while Al Jackson set a franchise record with 13 Wins. Catcher Choo Choo Coleman tied for the team lead with 5 SB. Meanwhile, the Yankees won 104 games, the second time in three years they would crack the century mark but the last time they would reach that height until 1977. 9. 1964 152 Wins The Mets edged up two wins from the year before but the Yankees dropped back five. Now Batting No. 5 and Playing Left Field, Wilmer Flores

Updated by Joe D. on 2/27 We may hear those words blare over the Citi Field PA system one day in the near future during a Mets game… Maybe… Whether or not Wilmer Flores should be handed an outfield glove has been debated quite passionately on MMO many times over the last several months. We’ve all debated the pros and cons of such a move, and obviously so have the Mets. As Andrew...

Jenrry Mejia, Jeurys Familia, And The Reality Of How Baseball Works

It wasn’t too long ago that when the subject of top Mets pitching prospects came up, the first two names that jumped to mind were righthanders Jenrry Mejia and Jeurys Familia. As a matter of fact, going into the 2011 season, both were still ranked as the two best pitching prospects in the Mets system. Anthony DiComo wrote a little about that this morning on Mets.com and it reminded...

ESPN New York: Valdespin’s Hot Start Can Get Him Look In OF

Updated by Joe D. on 2/28 I bet this will get some of you excited about the outfield situation… Jordany Valdespin, who is now batting .455 in Grapefruit League play, after two more singles tonight, is suddenly back in the spotlight thanks to his sizzling start. Mets Now Boast The Most Promising Stable Of Right-Handed Power Pitchers In Baseball

Michael Fulmer will debut in St. Lucie this season after dominating in Savannah last year. I was recently flipping through Baseball America’s most recent issue on their 100 Top Prospects, and I came across something interesting in their organization reports about the New York Mets. In summary, they state that the Mets now believe they have “one of the most promising stables of...

Thoughts On the New York Mets and Amway Business Center at Citi Field

Last season, the New York Mets answered the pleas of Mets fans everywhere and gave us the blue walls we so desperately wanted at Citi Field. As a show of good faith, this season, the Mets have graciously decided to add a matching blue awning to go with the blue outfield walls… And the best part is that we didn’t even have to beg for it… Ain’t she a pretty site? I know what...

Mets Scratch Zack Wheeler Due To A Mild Carlos Beltran Strain?

Andy Martino of the Daily News is hearing that Zack Wheeler will be scratched from his start today because of an oblique injury that happened while hitting in cage…. Wheeler has confirmed the injury and the Mets are calling it a mild strain… Darin Gorski will start today’s game instead of Wheeler today… This begs the question… We are using the DH in spring games, why was...

With sunset on the horizon, John Sterling - the last Voice of the Yankees - is working all this A-Rod stuff out in his head

In early 1964, after he cracked up on the air during the Yankees' World Series debacle against Koufax and Drysdale, announcer Mel Allen - the Voice of the Yankees for more than 22 years - was abruptly shown the door. He had given the organization everything, and in return, the ownership spread rumors of booze, uppers and homosexuality, and threw him overboard like a rotting piece...

Have The Mets Hit The Top Of The Pyramid…Scheme?

Just when you thought the New York Mets could not do anything dumber, they never cease to disappoint. The newest baffler out of flushing is that the franchise has just forged a partnership with Amway. You know, the “multilevel marketing company” known for skin cream? You know, the same company that recently paid out $150 million dollars in settlements to pyramid scheme victims...

(Photo credit: Mark LoMoglio) New York Yankees 3 — Philadelphia Phillies 4   JR Murphy hits a two-run home run in today’s 4-3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.   In the battle for starting catcher, JR Murphy is likely overlooked and will likely start in the minor leagues but he put on an impressive offensive show in today’s game. In his first at-bat in the 7th inning, he...

From Andrew Marchand:With Curtis Granderson out until May, ex-New York Yankee Johnny Damon has a message for his former team -- give me a call. Speaking on ESPN New York 98.7 FM's Michael Kay Show, Damon said he is willing to play just the five or so weeks of the regular season that Granderson will miss and he even would take a league-minimum contract to return to the Bronx...

Yankees rumors: New York won’t pursue Johnny Damon

Free agent outfielder Johnny Damon has said he’d be very open to a reunion with the New York Yankees. However, general manager Brian Cashman told reporters, including Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York, yesterday that the Yankees will not pursue Damon. "He's just not going to fit our needs," Cashman said. "It's the same reason we didn't bring...

Steinbrenners approve of A-Rod's portrayal in Yankees animated movie

While the New York Yankees played against the Philadelphia Phillies in Clearwater Tuesday, the team's braintrust, Hal and Hank Steinbrenner took in an animated movie during an afternoon matinee.
