Stolmy Pimentel has been an a very interesting prospect to follow throughout his minor league career. Before last year he had no trouble advancing through the minors. He had been able to keep up his production regardless of what level he was promoted to. But in 2012 he hit a wall. All is not lost though, as he still has a lot of potential and the book isn’t closed on him yet.
After going into 2011 coming off a very solid 2010 season where Pimentel went 9-11 with a 4.06 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. He struck out 102 batters while walking 42. Even more impressive was his FIP of 3.82. But the wheels fell off in 2011.
Pimentel got hammered hard in AA. He went 0-9 with a 9.12 ERA and a 1.95 WHIP. He walked 23 and only struck out 30 in 50.1 innings. And although he had an astronomically high BABIP of .370, that was more due to him being overmatched than bad luck. He couldn’t get anything going all season long in Portland and was demoted to High A Salem.
He wasn’t great for the Salem Sox, but he...

The Varitek's don't like the A-Rod picture. I don't care.
Of all the things that Jason Varitek has done during his lengthy career with the Red Sox, none is more recognizable than jamming his catcher's mitt in the face of Alex Rodriguez. And that's something that doesn't sit well with Jason, nor his father.

“It wasn't something that you're proud of. We've been down this road talking with my kids...
Interview with Alex Hassan
Alex Hassan is a 23 year old outfielder who spent all last year playing for the Portland Sea Dogs. Hassan is a Massachusetts native who grew up in Milton. He was drafted by the Red Sox in the 20th round of the 2009 draft. Hassan has done nothing but impress since being drafted by the Sox. He is known for his excellent plate discipline and ability to grind out at bats. He received an...
Darnell McDonald Ready to Assist in Red Sox Outfield, Adjusting to Bobby Valentine's 'Shag-Free' Camp
FORT MYERS, Fla. –– Darnell McDonald didn't train with any more urgency this offseason. When the outfielder first received word of Carl Crawford's wrist surgery in January, he didn't overthink the situation. The 33-year-old just kept his routine the same, patiently biding his time. "Every offseason, I try to put myself in the best situation to help contribute...

Theo Epstein setting new nightlife standard for Cubs
Theo Epstein has a tall task ahead of him in reestablishing the Cubs’ image as a respectable baseball team, and apparently that starts with emphasis on a good night’s sleep.
Saying that the “organization will no longer tolerate players who enjoy the nightlife at the expense of getting a good night’s sleep,” Epstein seems committed to making whatever changes necessary to...
Carl Crawford Suffers Minor Setback in Return From Wrist Surgery
FORT MYERS, Fla. –– Another setback has slowed Carl Crawford's bid for a starting spot on Opening Day. After a few swings on Tuesday, the Red Sox outfielder sensed pain in his left wrist –– the same one that was surgically repaired in early January. He aggravated it more during bunting drills on Wednesday and will be shut down for a few days. "You're always concerned...
Report: Theo Epstein Wants to Limit Cubs' Partying, Nightlife
Well, it looks like another Major League Baseball team is out to limit alcohol and its effects on performance. As newly crowned Chicago Cubs president, Theo Epstein wants his players to get a good night's rest before each game. After all of the news that came out regarding the Red Sox clubhouse this offseason, it seems only fitting that Epstein would impose some sort of regulation...

Eight more men are coming forward with sexual abuse allegations against former Red Sox clubhouse manager Donald J. Fitzpatrick, myFOXboston.com reported Monday.

In December 2011, another...
David Ortiz to Play First Base in Exhibition Game Against Boston College, Jon Lester to Start Against Northeastern
FORT MYERS, Fla. –– Bobby Valentine has already written up the lineup for Saturday's exhibition games against Northeastern and Boston College. And that isn't a typo in the second lineup. David Ortiz will be playing first base in the second spring training game, possibly another example of Valentine planning for down the road. Here are the complete lineups for Saturday...
Yanks- Red Sox Won’t Be the Same Again
When it was announced that Bobby Valentine would be the new manager of the Red Sox, I wrote how this would “spice up” the rivalry with the Yankees. Although we saw some of that in action this week with the comments Valentine made about Derek Jeter (’01 flip) and Alex Rodriguez (Varitek brawl), don’t be fooled into thinking this will ever return to the cold war days of 2003...

Red Sox Live Blog: Clay Buchholz to Make First Spring Training Start As Sox Square Off With Twins
8 a.m. ET: The Red Sox got a head start in the pursuit of the Mayor's Cup -- that is if Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire plans to give it up. Both teams will go at it again on Monday. This time, the game will take place at Hammonds Stadium, the Twins' facility in Fort Myers. On Sunday, Red Sox first base prospect Lars Anderson was the unlikely hero to blow the game open against...
