1. Zack Greinke, RHP, Los Angeles Dodgers It was hard to argue that Zack Greinke was not the preeminent pitcher in baseball after turning in a remarkable season that saw the then-Kansas City ace possess a sub-1.00 ERA until late-May, but that was in 2009. Now, three years later and a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Greinke’s pitch location and overall pitching approach is even better than four seasons ago when he earned the AL Cy Young Award. Greinke heated up in the month of August, pitching in a perfect 5-0 record and 1.23 ERA in five starts and was named the NL Pitcher of the Month. Not only is he putting on a clinic on the mound, but he was also contributing at the plate. Greinke batted a .328 AVG with four RBI and a OBP of .409, impressive numbers for pitcher, especially one who has spent the majority of his career in the American League. The Dodger’s pitching trio of Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, and Ricky Nolasco combined for a 13-2 record with a 1.30 ERA in the month of August, the only pitching trio to accomplish such a feat in a single month since the lowering of the pitching mound in 1969, according to Elias Sports Bureau. Greinke, 30, finished the 2013 regular season with a 15-4 record with a 2.63 ERA and 148 strikeouts. In the postseason, Zack Greinke pitched in three games and posted a 2.57 ERA with 17 strikeouts. Despite his magnificent season, Zack Greinke finished 8th in the 2013 Cy Young voting while receiving no first place votes. The post Top 5 N.L.
