PLAYERS: Paul Janish
TEAMS: Atlanta Braves

Paul Janish has not looked very impressive at this plate since joining the Braves last month. Through 16 games, Janish is batting just .173 with one RBI and two-extra base hits.

Although he is not excelling with the bat, his glove work at shortstop has made up for a little of his shortcomings at the dish. He eared top play honors on Wednesday night with an excellent diving catch on a ball hit to left field by Jose Reyes.

Janish chased down a bloop hit off Reyes’ bat, completing the play with a diving catch in the third inning of a 3-1 game.

Sheets brings excellent arm, leadership to Braves

ATLANTA -- Ben Sheets doesnt want to talk about his surgically repaired elbow, his comeback or even his unexpected and amazing success in three starts with the Braves. His hitting ability or inability is more like it -- is on his mind, and when something is swimming around his brain, theres little to stop it from coming out of his mouth. My bat is starting to come around, he said...

Suzanna saw the GBraves in Charlotte!

The water tower near Knights Stadium (which is actually in Fort Mills, SC instead of Charlotte. Go figure).   Below is Suzanna's story, followed by her pictures and captions... ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ On Sunday (the 29th) my parents and I went to watch the GBraves play the Charlotte Knights at the Knights’ home stadium. It was a really fun game, until...

Braves place RHP Hanson on 15-day disabled list

The Atlanta Braves placed right-hander Tommy Hanson on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a strained lower back. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez had said Hanson - who is 12-5 with a 4.29 ERA - would likely be given extra rest before his next scheduled start, but Monday night's trade with the Cubs for Paul Maholm made that move unnecessary. Maholm will join the Braves on Wednesday...

Maholm calls Braves 'landing spot No. 1 for me'

Left-hander Paul Maholm is settling in with the Braves, a team he says was ''landing spot No. 1 for me'' if he had to be traded from the Cubs. The Braves acquired Maholm and outfielder Reed Johnson from Chicago for right-handers Arodys Vizcaino and Jaye Chapman on Monday night. Maholm joined the Braves Wednesday. Johnson is starting in right field in Wednesday night...

Maholm, Johnson plug critical holes for Braves

The Braves didn't get a game changer. They didn't get the most dominant arm or the bat filled with the most pop and thunder. They didn't get Zack Greinke or Hunter Pence or Ichiro or even Ryan Dempster, who was on the verge of becoming a Brave but ended up a Ranger. Here's what happened, though. The Braves added depth to a rotation that has been better of late...

Jones, Freeman lead Braves past Marlins

ATLANTA (AP) -- Chipper Jones and Freddie Freeman each hit a two-run double, and the Atlanta Braves scored six runs in the first two innings to beat the Miami Marlins 6-1 Thursday night. New Cub Arodys Vizcaino

I was getting ready for bed last night when all these trades happened and I assumed I'd make it to bed at my bedtime. Then I saw Arodys Vizcaino's name surface as one of the two players the Cubs were getting in return for Reed Johnson and Paul Maholm. At that point I knew I was going to be up past my bedtime.  I had figured when we first heard of these players leaving,...
