Detroit Tigers right fielder Torii Hunter was able to avoid being hit by a home run ball thrown back onto the field, by one of his own fans, during Thursday's game at Comerica Park.
After Chicago White Sox batter Alejandro de Aza hit a home run into the right field stands in the top of the eighth, the fan decided on making the popular move of throwing a home run ball hit by the opposing team back onto the field. However, the fan threw it a little too close to Hunter, missing him by no more than a couple of feet. Fortunately Hunter was alert and able to get out of the way to avoid being hit on the bounce.
Just a perfect example of why throwing home run balls back onto the field is not a great idea.

YouTube The Tigers and White Sox got into a little dance party Thursday afternoon Tigers reliever Luke Putkonen threw a pitch behind White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez. Putkonen’s pitch was in retaliation to the Tigers believing that White Sox starter Chris Sale threw up and in to Prince Fielder following a Miguel Cabrera home run earlier in the game. All you need to about the...
Most professional athletes hate doing post game interviews, it’s just the way it is. But every so often you find an athlete that likes to have fun with the reporters, and Torii Hunter, the Detroit Tigers outfielder, is one of those athletes.
After Miguel Cabrera hit a home run off of White Sox ace Chris Sale in yesterday’s game, Sale threw up and in on the Tigers next hitter...
The Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox were involved in a little bit of beanball action on Thursday in Detroit. Tigers manager Jim Leyland and relief pitcher Luke Putkonen were both ejected from the game after Putkonen threw behind White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez in the sixth inning following a grand slam. After the game, Tigers veteran outfielder Torii Hunter conducted this...
A big question for an All-Star manager going into the midsummer classic is who will be the starting pitcher? I will tell you why Jim Leyland won’t have to look that far to find his man. We are only a few days away from the MLB’s 84th annual All-Star game which will be held in Citi Field, New York City, New York, which is the home of the New York Mets. One of the biggest question...
DETROIT Jim Leyland doesnt get a whole lot of love from Detroit Tigers fans.
Hes maligned in the social media and on radio talk shows for continuing to use Phil Coke with the game still in doubt; having too many cronies on his coaching staff; playing Andy Dirks, Don Kelly, Ramon Santiago and Alex Avila too much; not playing Matt Tuiasosopo enough; letting Jose Valverde burn down...
DETROIT -- No one is preparing a Hall of Fame plaque for him or even referring to him as a SharkNado (yet), but Bruce Rondon is going to help the Tigers this season.
Rondon started the seventh inning against the Texas Rangers with a 7-2 lead, relieving starter Doug Fister.
Rondon threw 10 pitches, all for strikes as he got four straight outs before handing the game to Drew Smyly...

Jim Leyland was ejected after going pretty nuts on the umpires during a bench-clearing brawl between the Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox on Thursday at Comerica Park. The issues between the teams began in the bottom of the fifth when Sox pitcher Chris Sale threw at Prince Fielder [...]
Tigers right-hander Rick Porcello had his suspension for throwing at Tampa Bay's Ben Zobrist reduced to five games.
He'll begin serving it Thursday.
Porcello was initially suspended six games after hitting Zobrist on June 30. He pitched Wednesday night and said before Thursday's game against the Chicago White Sox he was ready to start serving the ban.
Prince Fielder homered, Rick Porcello pitched six solid innings and the Detroit Tigers bounced back Wednesday night with an 8-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
Detroit allowed 23 hits in an 11-4 loss to the White Sox on Tuesday, but it was the Tigers who did the slugging early on in this game. Fielder lined a two-run shot to right field in the first inning for his 16th homer...
DETROIT -- Tigers starter Rick Porcello, who won his sixth game Wednesday night, dropped the appeal of his six-game suspension Thursday, as expected.
Major League Baseball originally suspended Porcello six games for hitting Tampa Bay's Ben Zobrist with a pitch in the first inning June 30.
Porcello, who said he thought the suspension might have...
Detroit reliever Luke Putkonen threw a pitch behind Chicago's Alexei Ramirez, and both benches and bullpens emptied in the top of the sixth inning of Thursday's game between the Tigers and White Sox.
An inning after Chris Sale threw high and inside to Tigers star Prince Fielder, the trouble occurred. Ramirez started toward the mound after nearly being hit, pointing at Putkonen...
It’s entirely possible that Luke Putkonen just lost grip of his pitch, leading it to sail behind Alexei Ramirez at the plate, but probably not.
Whatever the motive may be, though, Ramirez was none too pleased with the pitch delivered during the sixth inning of the Tigers-White Sox game at Comerica Park on Thursday afternoon. The White Sox shortstop made a few steps toward Putkonen...
The L.A. Dodgers hit another multi-year high on Tuesday night. In other news, the Tigers earned their second-best rating of the season, and ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball” could not match last year’s Yankees/Red Sox affair. [...]
DETROIT (AP) -- Jhonny Peralta's two-run double highlighted a five-run first inning for the Detroit Tigers, who went on to a 7-2 victory over the Texas Rangers on Friday night.
The Tigers scored four runs before making an out when their first six hitters reached base off Texas rookie Justin Grimm (7-7). Doug Fister (7-5) allowed two runs in the fourth but was otherwise sharp...
