Miguel Cabrera and Torii Hunter didn’t start Sunday at Comerica Park but they helped the Tigers extend their winning streak to eight games. Hunter delivered a walk-off RBI single in the 12th inning to give the Tigers a 3-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox who have lost 10 straight. Cabrera who missed the previous three games with an abdominal strain delivered a pinch-hit single to start the bottom of the 12th. He still seemed hampered by the strain as he ran to first base and was replaced by pinch-runner Matt Tuiasosopo. Austin Jackson delivered a sacrifice bunt to move Tuiasosopo to second and Tuiasosopo scored on Hunter’s line single to left-center. “Ah man I thought I had a day off” joked Hunter who also delivered a pinch-hit single in the 10th. “When you come to the park you enjoy the first couple innings. Once that fifth inning hits you go down in the tunnel and you get yourself loose and get some swings in and prepare yourself to come in and pinch-hit or play defense.” The Tigers were 8-0 on the home stand — all sellouts — including Sunday’s crowd of 42513. The Tigers drew 127528 for the three games a season-high for a three-game series. “You look at this ballclub all cylinders are clicking” Hunter said. “The starting pitchers are having quality starts and our bullpen is coming in and getting the job done. Timely hitting. Defense is looking good — (Jose) Iglesias making plays like that it’s impressive. All cylinders are clicking. We’re just going to ride that bike until the wheels fall off.” Told it was his eighth career walk-off hit Hunter said: “I had eight? I’m old. “It feels good. Just like any other baseball player we’re all competitors. We do. We want to be in that situation where you can get that chance to get that game-winning hit and in that situation I felt good. I knew the base was open. A man on second. I felt they were going to pitch around me to get me to chase. I was just waiting for a strike and he threw it right there and I capitalized on it.”
