Unlike the National Hockey League, who are doing next to nothing,  the Toronto Blue Jays have been quite busy over the past two weeks. First, the club pulled off one of the biggest trades in history with Miami and then they signed Melky Cabrera two days later.  To be honest, I am not thrilled with move at all.  Cabrera was suspended 50 games for having high levels of testosterone in his system earlier this year. The latest move by Blue Jay’s general manager, Alex Anthopoulos was the hiring of John Gibbons as the team’s new manager, (or old manager, depending how you look at it). Gibbons is no stranger to Toronto.  He managed the team for five seasons, from 2004-2008.  ”I’m thrilled for John (Gibbons) to be the manager of this club,” Anthopoulos said in a press conference. Gibbons, 50, signed a two-year contract with the Jays.  Financial terms were not disclose at this time. BLAST FROM THE PAST – John Gibbons replaces John Farrell as the Jay’s new manager Gibbons replaces John Farrell who left for Boston last month.  The search for a new manager started in late October. Gibbons is considered a to be players’ manager.  ”From my standpoint, I don’t know if there was anybody better in terms of managing the bullpen, connecting to the players , connecting  to the front office, holding the players accountable.” said Anthopoulos,  ”It’s a perfect fit.” How does Gibbons feel about becoming manager of the Blue Jays again.  ”This came as a big surprise to me.” he said, “it’s really a thrill and an honor to be back.” Since he left the club in 2008, Gibbons said he’s been following the team very closely. As for me, I’m not sure what to make of Gibbons being hired again.  It’s not a bad move actually when you look at it closely.   After all,  he was manager for five years.   Unlike Farrell who left after only two seasons.   Gibbons must of done something right.
