Blue Jays Moves By The Numbers

RHP – Erik Swanson

Swanson was drafted in the eighth round of the 2014 MLD Draft by the Texas Rangers and made his debut on April 11, 2019, with the Seattle Mariners going two innings giving up two runs on three hits; he walked two and struck out four. He was acquired by Toronto on November 16, 2022, which also brought in LHP Adam Macko who is the Blue Jays eighth-ranked prospect in exchange for Teoscar Hernandez. Last season he made 69 appearances going 4-2 with a 2.97 ERA, a 3.51 FIP, a 1.09 WHIP, and 75 strikeouts in 66.2 innings. This spring before he was injured, he made two appearances posting a 5.40 ERA, a 1.80 WHIP, and one strikeout in 1.2 innings.

RHP – Jordan Romano

Romano will return to the closer role for Toronto the team that drafted him in the tenth round of the 2014 MLB Draft. He made his debut on June 12, 2019, against Baltimore going one inning, he didn’t allow a run, a hit, or a walk and he struck out two. He took over the closer role in 2021 and since then he has recorded 97 saves. Last season he had 36 saves making 59 appearances going 5-7 with a 3.46 FIP, a 1.22 WHIP, and 72 strikeouts in 59 innings. This spring he made five appearances posting a 2.08 ERA, a 0.92 WHIP, and six strikeouts in 4.1 innings.

RHP – Mitch White

White was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He made his first appearance on August 28, 2020, for the Dodgers against the Texas Rangers going one inning, he didn’t allow a run on one hit; he walked one and struck out one. He started 2022 with the Dodgers before he was traded on August 2^nd to Toronto for prospects one of which is Nick Frasso who is currently the Dodgers second-ranked prospect by ITD. White finished his Dodgers tenure making 38 appearances with 14 coming as starts going 3-5 with a 3.58 ERA, a 3.87 FIP, a 1.20 WHIP, and 98 strikeouts in 105.2 innings. With Blue Jays following the trade he made ten appearances with eight of those as starts going 0-5 with a 7.74 ERA, a 3.76 FIP, a 1.74 WHIP, and 31 strikeouts in 43 innings. This season he made four appearances going 4-0 with a 5.40 ERA, 4.53 FIP, a 1.40 WHIP, and six strikeouts in ten innings. Depending on what happens next, he has appeared in 24 games for Toronto with eight coming as starts going 1-6 with a 7.26 ERA, a 4.10 FIP, a 1.69 WHIP, and 50 strikeouts in 65.2 innings.  

RHP – Nate Pearson

Pearson was drafted 28^th overall by Toronto in the 2017 MLB Draft. He made his debut on July 29, 2020, going five innings giving up two hits, and no runs; he walked two and struck out five. He has become a reliever for Toronto appearing in 41 games over the last two seasons going 5-2 with a 4.22 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP, and 52 strikeouts in 49 innings. This season he has appeared in six games with a 0.00 ERA, a 1.80 FIP, a 1.10 WHIP, and nine strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Last season with Buffalo he appeared in 20 games going 0-1 with a 1.74 ERA, a 1.40 WHIP, and 34 strikeouts in 20.2 innings.
