  • Of the players mentioned only Scherzer will cost Detroit more money, the others are a wash, some gaining, some losing. If Scherzer stays healthy the only question will be do we pay him, or do we trade him for someones "ELITE"

Detroit Tigers: the week that was

As week 2 of the season came to an end for the Detroit Tigers with a rousing 10-1 win over the A’s, all seems right with the world. At 7-5, the Tigers are tied with the Royals for 1st place in the AL Central after taking 2 of 3 from both the Blue Jays and A’s. The bats are bashing, the starting pitching has been outstanding, the defense has been nearly flawless, and the bullpen…...

Valverde has third successful outing

The Tigers will soon have a decision to make on Jose Valverde. Valverde pitched for the third time in extended spring training Monday. Valverde threw two scoreless innings against the Canadian National team in a scrimmage at the Disney complex. He did not allow a hit or a walk and struck out four. Valverde also threw a scoreless inning last Friday and a bullpen session last Wednesday...

Tigers homer way to win, curly fries

On Saturday vs. Oakland, Torii Hunter hit his first home run as a regular season Tiger, a 468-foot bomb. Prince Fielder and Jhonny Peralta followed with homers of their own to lead the Tigers to a 7-3 win and fans to free curly fries. As I mentioned on Twitter during the game, three "big flies" equal free curly fries, and drinks courtesy of Rod Allen. I've captured...

Darvish smells Nelson Cruz's broken bat

Okay, there are a ton of questions related to this GIF, but we’ll try to break it down. We’re not sure if it passes the sniff test. Nelson Cruz broke his bat in the sixth inning of Saturday night’s Rangers-Mariners game, according to GoldAndOrSmith.com. The top half of the bat wound up back in the Rangers’ dugout, the bat was passed to Yu Darvish, and for some reason, he...

Talkin’ Tigers Week in Review: Bullpen Issues Will Be Detroit’s Biggest Struggle to Watch in 2013

A week after the Detroit Tigers’ offense started April a bit slow, things exploded in impressive fashion. Combined with some excellent starting pitching, two out of the three necessary elements for a special baseball team are rounding into shape early. One, however, is not. Again, the bullpen was shaky all week, even within a few victories. Relievers combined to blow a 6-1 lead...

Tigers 7, Athletics 3

Prince Fielder homered for the second straight game, Torii Hunter hit his first clout since joining Detroit to help back Justin Verlander and the Tigers snapped the Oakland Athletics' nine-game winning streak with a 7-3 victory Saturday. Jhonny Peralta followed Fielder's leadoff shot in the fourth with a three-run homer, and the Tigers didn't let the A's back into...

Tigers 10, Athletics 1

Austin Jackson had four hits, homered and drove in three runs, Torii Hunter added two doubles and a triple, and the Detroit Tigers routed the Oakland Athletics 10-1 Sunday. Hunter had three extra-base hits for the first time since June 13, 2009, for the Los Angeles Angels Miguel Cabrera drove in two runs for the Tigers, who had 14 hits and won for the third time in four games....

Detroit Tigers’ Offense Cools Down Athletics in Playoff Rematch

The Detroit Tigers ventured into o.co Coliseum (great name….**eye roll**) to take on the red hot Oakland A’s this weekend. The series was a rematch of last year’s hotly contested 5-game American League Divisional Series that wasn’t decided until Justin Verlander pitched a complete game in Game 5 to drag the Tigers to the ALCS against the New York Yankees. It was a series...

Scout.com Player of the Week

The Detroit Tigers have been an offensive machine over the first two weeks of the season, but while Miguel Cabrera had a nice few days, another Motor City masher was really the cat's meow in Week 2.

Tigers' Fielder locked in to start the season

What started as a joke in spring training is quickly turning into reality. After Justin Verlander won the American League MVP in 2011 and Miguel Cabrera won the award in 2012, people began to speculate on which Tiger could be next to take the prize. Naturally, the first name mentioned was Prince Fielder. Fielder, 28, in his first season with the Tigers last year, which was also...

DTW News and Notes 4-14-13

A few notes to get you through the off-day. Interesting Numbers: 1: number of errors thus far by the Tigers (Scherzer’s missed pickoff, which may have cost us a W) 1: number of hits by a right-handed hitter off of Anibal Sanchez this season. 5: number of saves by Jason Grilli this year. Streaking A’s Win Ninth Straight

With a record of 9-2, The Oakland A’s are off to their best start since 1992 and have the best record in the American League. In an attempt to surpass Billy Martin’s 1981 Athletics’ eleven game win streak, the A’s must win their next three games, two of which are against the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers beat the A’s in
