The Pirates, usually looking to make a deal that could restock their minor league system, have a few starters that could be on the market. One is Ian Snell.
The Yankees, among other teams, have shown an interest. Snell, 27, is in Triple-A and has a 0.96 ERA in six starts. His last one was the only time he didn't go at least 6 innings. Snell gave up two earned runs on 9 hits in 5 innings on Sunday. He has 47 strikeouts and 13 walks in 37 1/3 innings pitched in the minors.
Snell clearly doesn't want to be a Pirate. He even asked to be demoted to Triple-A. You don't see that every day. And his major league numbers this season are not good: 2-8, 5.36 ERA in 80 2/3 innings. Snell's best season was 2006. He was 14-11 with a 4.74 ERA. Not bad, considering the Pirates weren't very good. He pitched more than 200 innings in 2007 and had an ERA of 3.76. He dropped off in 2008 with a 5.41 ERA.
But he is pitching well right now and could be a nice, back-end rotation additi...
