He may be the man who carried out the uprooting of the Cleveland Indians in 2002, but he has remained relatively unscathed as he rebuilt this team almost from the ground up. He survived departures by cornerstone franchise guys like Jim Thome and Manny Ramirez. It will be interesting to see how his legacy ends up as he faces a few more franchise players with potential free agencies in CC Sabathia, Travis Hafner and Cliff Lee.

  • I think Shapiro has done a good job. The Barfield trade was great. He got a 23 year old second basemen who will be one of the best in the game (if he is not already) for a 25 year old AAAA player. He's had a tough time getting good value back for his franchise guys because they are usually in a pennant race and can't afford to trade them.
