Former major leaguer David Bell, who managed Reds' Double-A affiliate Carolina for the last three seasons, was announced as the new manager for Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday afternoon. He takes the place of Rick Sweet. Here is a snippet taken from the Bats website regarding the announcement: "Louisville, KY – Former Louisville Redbird David Bell will manage the Louisville Bats in 2012, marking the first time since 2004 that someone other than Rick Sweet will serve as skipper of the Bats. Joining Bell, who spent the last three seasons at Double-A Carolina, on the coaching staff will be Ted Power, who returns for his seventh season as pitching coach for the Bats, and hitting coach Ryan Jackson. Bell, 39, was manager at Double-A Carolina from 2009 to 2011 and compiled a 176-239 record. The 2009 season marked his first as a manager or coach at the professional level and this will be his first season at the Triple-A level. Bell played parts of 12 seasons in the big lea...

State of the Farm – Corner Outfield

Yonder Alonso is not your typical corner outfielder, heck, he isn’t truly an outfielder at all. But, the Reds do plan on using him as an outfielder for the time being so he leads the group of corner outfielders. Defensively, he leaves a lot to be desired. Alonso is not a guy who is ever going to run well because of a thick lower half. Given his inexperience in left field, he...

Addressing the Reds 3 Biggest Needs

In a piece published earlier today, Christine Kahrl of ESPN.com suggests three problems and three solutions confronting each team in the NL Central this offseason. The following is the excerpt pertaining to the Reds (to view her post in its entirety, follow this link): "1. Sorting out the rotation. After not really resolving the situation over 2011, the Reds are still...

Winter Meetings Preview: Cincinnati Reds

2011 was a disappointing season for the Cincinnati Reds. They were coming off of a 2010 Central division championship and they appeared to be a team on the rise. That all disappeared when their pitching seemed to dry up in an instant. Yet, behind all of the disappointment, there is quite a bit of optimism still left at Great American Ballpark. Joey Votto was almost as good in 2011...

So long, Ramon Hernandez

Ramon Hernandez is now a former Red. Clutch Man Monie has signed a two-year deal with Colorado. That ends a pretty good three-year tenure for Hernandez behind the plate in Cincinnati. I’m not surprised Ramon is leaving, but I was very surprised at how productive he was as a Red. I wish him nothing but the best of luck, and will remember his Reds career in a positive light...

Phillips tweets he's closer to deal with Reds

In very much 21st-century fashion, Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips hinted Tuesday night that he and the club are closer to a long-term contract extension.

Latest Yonder Alonso Suitors/Rumors

The latest rumors I have heard swirling around Yonder Alonso have him possibly ending up on the southside of Chicago, or with the AL Champion Texas Rangers. The latter scenario is very intriguing to me. Let me preface the rest of the post with the disclaimer that once again, these are RUMORS, and also that I prefer James Shields. I am certainly a fan of bringing American League...
