All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki with have surgery on Thursday to repair his injured groin. Tulo has a sports hernia, and the surgery will remove scar tissue that is causing nerve irritation in his groin. According to a report on CBSsports.com, Tulo will most likely miss the remainder of the first half of the season. If the Rockies continue to struggle and, it would not surprise us to see the Rockies shut down Tulowtizki for the year. There would likely be nothing to gain for his return, and the risk of aggravating the injury an missing time in 2013 is not worth playing in meaningless games.

Troy Tulowitzki to have groin surgery

Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will have surgery on his left groin area on Thursday and it's unknown when he'll return. Tulowitzki was injured May 30 against Houston, pulling up after running out an infield grounder. The All-Star shortstop took himself out of a game last Wednesday at Triple-A Colorado Springs after feeling not quite right. Rockies manager Jim...

Colorado Rockies continue to suffer from terrible management

The Rockies are the only ones who can't see how bad this guy is.The Colorado Rockies made an announcement before Tuesday night's game in Philadelphia. It wasn't the announcement that many were expecting. Most thought that Jeremy Guthrie, the biggest trade mistake Dan O'Dowd has made, would be dealt. Instead, the announcement was that Guthrie was going to the bullpen...

Replacing Troy Tulowitzki

You cannot replace Troy Tulowitzki. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The following gentlemen may ease the pain of his absence in your lineup, however. Zack Cozart, SS, Cincinnati Reds- Cozart is probably the best available shortstop in your fantasy league. He has 7 HR, 15 RBI, and his 18 doubles lead all major league shortstops. He is owned in just 37.5 percent of ESPN fantasy...

Losing continues for Colorado Rockies

Amazingly, it keeps getting worse for the Rockies. It was a game the Colorado Rockies should have won. They were one out away from securing the victory before the Phillies stole one away from them, winning 7-6.Rafael Betancourt couldn't get the final out in the bottom of the 9th inning, partly because of bad defense and partly because of poor pitch location. After getting two quick...

Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix, June 21, 2012: Tulowitzki gets bad news, needs surgery

William Goldman is a Hollywood screenwriter, who famously wrote in his memoir “Adventures in the Screen Trade,” that “nobody knows anything.” Aside from his movies – “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” “The Princess Bride,” “Misery,” - this quote may be his most enduring legacy. What Goldman was referring to, was the often unexplainable and unpredictable...

Colorado Rockies to Go With Four-Man Starting Rotation, Move Jeremy Guthrie to Bullpen

Colorado's baseball team is stuck between a rock and a hard place. The Rockies are in fourth place of the National League West with a 25-40 record. While Colorado has been one of the ten best hitting teams in baseball throughout the early part of the season, the team has struggled to muster consistent pitching, especially from the starting rotation. The Rockies have a league...

Good Month For Rex Brothers (Singular)

June has been a good one for Rex Brothers.I was hoping for a very different Rex Brothers. Sadly, the Colorado reliever is just one player. When the 2009 MLB Rule 4 draft buzz about Rex Brothers was occurring, my first thought was there were Rex Brothers like the Upton brothers but twins. One lefty and one righty, naturally, but otherwise identical. Ideally, one of them would...

Stupid Colorado Rockies Try to be Cute With Four-Man, Low-Pitch Rotation

In what might be the dumbest move that Major League Baseball has seen since the first and second time they thought a baseball team would work in Florida, the Colorado Rockies have gone to a four-man pitching rotation that will be limited to 75 pitches each start. Say what? We all know the magic number of pitches before a pitcher's arm falls off is 100 every fifth day. ...

Jeremy Guthrie Bucks the Trend

The Colorado Rockies starting rotation has been awful at preventing runs this season. Their collective 5.38 ERA and 4.56 FIP are easily National League worsts, and their walk and home run rates rank at or near the bottom as well. Pitching in Coors Field plays a big part in their performance — as their much improved 3.90 SIERA and 4.10 xFIP indicate — but overall, starting pitching...

Rockies' Decision to Go With Four-Man Rotation Destined to Fail Without Right Personnel (Video)

Are the Colorado Rockies onto something? Or are they just desperate? The Rockies are trying to go with a four-man rotation and 75-pitch limits to find some reprieve from their poor performance on the mound so far this year. NESN Nation's Dan Duquette asked our Twitter followers if they thought that was a good idea or not. Check out what they have to say in the video above. Join...

Desperate Rockies shuffle rotation

In the late '60s, with an expansion franchise that lost 100-plus games in five of its first six years -- and 95 games in the other -- the New York Mets decided they had nothing to lose. With that mind-set, they strayed from the accepted four-man rotation and decided to use a fifth starter on a regular basis. Whitey Herzog, who ran the Mets' farm system at the time, explained...

Bullpen Blowup

The Rockies lost a real heartbreaker Wednesday night when what would have been the final out of the ninth to send the game into extra innings turned into a walkoff win for the Phillies when Todd Helton's foot couldn't find first base. The Rockies bullpen lost their grasp on the game before that, however, and that's why I'm writing about them today.
