TEMPE, Az. For the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim this spring, the hype has been about Albert Pujols. The hope, for the Angels, has been for Kendrys Morales. So far, so good. And it got even better on Thursday afternoon. Morales, out since fracturing his lower left leg in a home late celebration of a May 29, 2010 walk-off grand slam against Seattle, faced big-league pitching...

Bobby Abreu, from great mentor to bad role model

I’ve always believed that a team needs a strong veteran presence, on a 25-man roster there should be at least a couple of older players to mentor the youngsters.  Maybe I have an issue with authority myself, but it’s always been easier for me to learn from an experienced peer than from someone assigned to evaluate or manage me.  But an important aspect of mentorship is promotion...

Angels look to take AL West back from Texas

After ruling the AL West for most of a six-year stretch, the Angels found themselves looking up at the Texas Rangers the last two years. It was not a comfortable position for Angels' owner Arte Moreno, who had not missed out on the playoffs in consecutive seasons since purchasing the defending World Series champions in 2003. Moreno reacted with the most tumultuous and transformative...
