(Eds: APNewsNow. AP Photo planned. With AP Photos.) By JON KRAWCZYNSKI AP Baseball Writer After the kind of season Matt Capps endured as the Minnesota Twins closer, many pitchers would look for a change of scenery in free agency.
Capps wanted a second chance. He got it from general manager Terry Ryan, who re-signed Capps as the closer this season after Joe Nathan left for the Texas Rangers.
Capps says he was heartened by the show of faith and is determined to prove that last season was a fluke.
Capps blew seven of his 22 save chances last year and was 4-7 with a 4.25 ERA. He says he felt like he ''let a lot of people down.''
When the Twins approached him about returning, he jumped at the opportunity for second chance.

Pitchers and catchers held their first official workout on Sunday, with 33 pitchers in uniform, an unusually high number geared toward creating competition for bullpen spots.
Twins GM Terry Ryan confirmed that first baseman Justin Morneau will have to be medically cleared to return to action because Morneau ended last season on the disabled list with concussion-like symptoms.
A day after throwing off the mound, Twins left-hander Francisco Liriano threw his first bullpen session on Monday.

Drew Butera lacks punch at the plate, but the team might need him as a backup if Ryan Doumit opens as the DH. Still, "that next guy has got to earn his spot."
It's a unique situation, but the Twins are a very unique organization. Terry Ryan is beginning his first spring as general manager after four years out of that chair. Bill Smith, the guy he replaced, remains in the organization.
