What a disaster last night. I didn’t think it would be that bad.

The White Sox evened up the race for first place in the AL central division by pounding the Twins 6-1 – no thanks to Glen Perkins or the Twins’ terrible defensive play last night. Plus, Twins players are dropping like flies (Slowey, Hardy, Mijares, Rauch).

All in all, not a good combination.

By the way, Rauch apparently hurt his toe kicking something because he was mad after Tuesday night’s game. Good grief.

So, while in for Twins starting pitcher Kevin Slowey, Perkins gave up six runs last night (four earned). Ugh, Glen Perkins. That’s terrible. What a disaster.

And Denard Span should never, ever be allowed to try and stretch a hit or steal a base ever again. I don’t care how fast he is. He’s a disaster on the bases this season. You cannot lead off with a double and instead get thrown out at third – that’s just shameful.

But, it was an indicator of how things would play out, all the way to Twins reliever Jose Mijares’ knee injury covering first in the eighth. The bullpen is a mess these days – Rauch is out with that busted toe, Mijares (our only lefty) left the Cell on crutches, and when Hudson was activated, the Twins sent down Slama.

I guess they’ll have to bring him back up, now. If your bullpen is decimated by injuries (ours), then you can call your guy back up even if you just sent him down (Slama).

Thank goodness for Michael Cuddyer’s at bats last night. He went two for three off the White Sox’s nearly-perfect-last-night pitcher Danks and drove in the Twins’ lone run. Cuddyer is a beast. Too bad his throw to Orlando Hudson at second was wide.

J.J. Hardy had an error, too, but I wonder if maybe he was encumbered by wrist pain. The usually phenomenal Twins shortstop left the game in the seventh inning because he had wrist pain. Yeah, it’s the same wrist that had him on the DL earlier this year. Uh-oh.

So, now we have Crain, Mahay (who makes me want to cry), Guerrier, and closer Capps in the bullpen (Capps had a very good eighth inning when he replaced Mijares last night). The Twins will call up Slama, I guess. And maybe Blackburn. Plus, SP Slowey’s hurt, so that disaster Perkins is in. The Twins’ pitching ranks have, shall we say, been thinned.

And it’s hard to win when you play sloppy defense, can’t pitch, and strand seven guys. I’m just saying.
