Before the Oakland Athletics topped the Minnesota Twins on Sunday, they had already clinched the American League West. A loss by the Texas Rangers sealed that fate for the A's. Unfortunately for the Twins, the game still had to be played. Even after they clinched the AL West, the A's beat Minnesota by an 11-7 final to complete a four-game sweep -- the first time ever that Minnesota was swept in four games in Oakland -- and dropped the Twins to 34-47 on the road as Minnesota closed out its road schedule. As catcher Josmil Pinto struck out for the game's final out, Oakland's players celebrated near the pitcher's mound as the champions of the West. "Congratulations to the Oakland A's. They're a fun baseball team to watch," said Twins manager Ron Gardenhire. "They get after the game pretty hard. They believe in themselves. . . . They play the game the right way. They respect the game, so congratulations to those guys." The Athletics sw...

Photo: Baby celebrates Oakland Athletics clinching division by drinking beer

Sunday was a momentous occasion for the Oakland Athletics as they secured their second straight division title with an 11-7 win at home over Minnesota. After the game, they did what every Major League Baseball team does after winning a division crown, which is blow the stress and pressure off a long season with some cold beverages, loud music, and wild celebration. Oh, and...

Twins' Joe Mauer getting better, had another good day of workouts

While the Minnesota Twins will not see Joe Mauer back on the field this season, his symptoms are fading and he is getting better.  It took a while for him to start making some progress, but Mauer has now been symptom-free for a few days.  His concussion has kept him out for over a month now. Joe Mauer had another good day of workouts at Target Field. Has been symptom-free...

Baby Caught Drinking Out of Beer Bottle During A’s American League West Clinching Celebration (Photo)

The Oakland Athletics are known as a loose, fun baseball club, but this may be taking it a little too far. As the A’s celebrated winning the American League West, everyone was getting in on the celebration — including some folks associated with the team who were not of drinking age (or barely any age at all). Twenty-one years old? Try 21 months. With the suds flowing freely in...

Overflowing sewage hits A's ballpark

The Oakland A's dugout is full of crap, and that's not just a figure of speech. With the Minnestoa Twins in town on Saturday, a few inches of raw sewage backed up into the visitors' dugout before the third game of a four-game series. Twins closer Glen Perkins observed what he described as "potential sewage," and sent out a photo on Twitter. Visitor dugout...

Ron Gardenhire has jokes about the A’s potentially clinching the division

With a win over the Twins or a Rangers loss, the A’s could be clinching their 16th division title on Sunday. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was asked about that possibility and his answer was the greatest: “I don’t want them to swim in our pool, which is usually our dugout here.” Funny and doubly topical. Nicely done, sir. Nicely done. Unless you are John McCain. [SF Gate]

Baby Celebrates Oakland A's Winning the Division With a Little Bud Light

For the second season in a row the Oakland Athletics won the AL West--so there is going to be some celebrating going on, right? While that is true in the future they may want to make sure that the revelers are all of age if they are enjoying a cold beer. Hmmm...I wonder if a certain mommy has gotten a call from a certain state agency yet... Loading...

Athletics beat Twins 11-7, capture AL West again

Coco Crisp hit a three-run homer, Daric Barton and Jed Lowrie each had a solo shot and the Oakland Athletics wrapped up their second straight AL West title while overpowering the Minnesota Twins 11-7 Sunday. The A's clinched their 16th division crown and 25th postseason appearance when Texas lost 4-0 at Kansas City earlier. Oswaldo Arcia homered and drove in six runs for Minnesota...

A's beat Twins 9-1, lower magic number to 1

The Oakland Athletics lowered their magic number to one for clinching their second straight AL West title, beating the Minnesota Twins 9-1 Saturday behind the pitching of Jarrod Parker and hitting of Alberto Callaspo. The A's have won 12 of 15 and are 16 of their last 21, opening a season-high 7 1/2-game lead over second-place Texas entering Saturday. Texas was Kansas City later...

A's clinch 2nd straight AL West title

The Oakland Athletics are AL West champions again. The A's clinched their 16th division title and 26th postseason appearance when Texas lost 4-0 at Kansas City on Sunday. Oakland was hosting the Minnesota Twins. With the Twins batting in the third, word started to circulate around the Oakland Coliseum of Justin Maxwell's two-out grand slam that beat the Rangers in the 10th...

A’s Pull Closer to A.L. West Title with 9-1 Win Over Twins

After a downpour that caused the original 1:05 p.m. start time to be pushed back to 3:05, the A’s came out and battered the Minnesota Twins en route to a 9-1 win, pulling themselves one game closer to a second straight American League West title. It took Jarrod Parker 18 pitches (15 of them to the first two batters) to get through the first, stranding a one-out Brian Dozier infield...

Twins beat Tigers in 11th

The Twins realized there probably would be a celebration at Target Field during this series with Detroit. Even without champagne they enjoyed the party a lot more than they expected. Brian Dozier launched a Joaquin Benoit fastball into the Tigers bullpen to tie the score in the ninth inning Monday night then raced home with the winning run on a Josmil Pinto single in the 11th and...

O.co Coliseum Plagued by Sewage Problems Once Again, Visitor’s Dugout is Underwater After Heavy Rain (Photo)

Another day, another sewage problem at O.co Coliseum. In what has become one of the more repulsive trends in baseball this season, the Oakland A’s are battling yet another issue with sewage. A small sewage leak on Tuesday night led to a bit of a mess in the home dugout, and after some heavy rain came down on Oakland on Saturday morning, they found the small mess had turned into...

Athletics-Angels Preview

Although the Oakland Athletics have clinched a second straight AL West title, they still have something to play for with home-field advantage in a division series up for grabs. It could still be another day, however, until they turn their entire focus to playoff seeding. After celebrating their division crown, it's uncertain how many regulars will be in the starting lineup...
