The Chicago White Sox have won five straight over the Minnesota Twins and will try to complete a three-game home sweep as a pair of struggling left-handed starters match up. Minnesota's Scott Diamond is 2-0 this year against the White Sox, who will counter with John Danks on Wednesday in Chicago. The Twins (64-86) took 10 of the first 13 meetings between the AL Central's worst teams before this streak by the White Sox. Although Diamond (5-11, 5.61 ERA) owns a worse ERA than Danks (4-13, 4.73), the Twins starter could have an edge Wednesday since he has posted a 3.18 ERA in two starts against the White Sox (60-91) this year. Danks, in contrast, is 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA in two outings versus the Twins in 2013. Chicago has lost 16 of his 23 starts against Minnesota - the opponent he has faced the most. Mirroring the play of their teams, neither starter is closing out the year in strong fashion. Since Diamond beat Danks on June 20, he is 0-5 with a 6.20 ERA in eight starts for the longest winless stretch of his career. Diamond's ERA in day games is at 6.82 compared to a 4.11 mark at night. Danks has posted a 9.42 ERA in losing his last three starts, and called his four-inning stint last Thursday in which he surrendered seven runs in a 14-3 loss to Cleveland "embarrassing." "If I had a reason I would've fixed it," Danks said. "I just couldn't do what I wanted to do." Diamond faces a tough matchup against Dayan Viciedo, who is 8 for 19 with a homer against him. Viciedo is 5 for 9 with four RBIs in this series while Alexei Ramirez is 5 for 7 and has also driven in four runs. Ramirez is 4 for 20 against Diamond, who has limited Gordon Beckham to one hit in 12 at-bats. One player who Danks has never faced is Alex Presley, who will likely be back in the lineup. Manager Ron Gardenhire chose not to start him Tuesday after the center fielder started his first 15 games with the Twins, who acquired him Aug. 31 from Pittsburgh in the Justin Morneau deal. Presley batted .302 in those 15 starts, although he struck out 14 times in 63 at-bats. "I'm pretty impressed with him," Gardenhire told the Twins' official website. "He's done a real nice job for us. He's swinging the bat and hanging in there against tough pitchers he hasn't faced before. He's had some big hits for us." Minnesota starters are 0-8 with a 7.47 ERA in 15 games since Kevin Correia won at Texas on Sept. 1. Twins starters have been tagged for 10 runs over five innings in this series, with Chicago winning 12-1 on Monday and 4-3 the next night.

You can't unsee this photo of Twins pitcher getting hazed

The season has been a nightmare for the Minnesota Twins, both from an organizational standpoint and from the viewpoint of the team’s fans. It only makes sense that when the team initiated its annual rookie hazing, a long-standing fall tradition in baseball, it only makes sense that it too would give both fans and, well, […]The post Rookie pitcher Cole De Vries hazed by Twins...

ChiSox announcer Hawk Harrelson's calls get techno remix

I'm not even sure what to say about this. Chicago White Sox broadcaster Ken "Hawk" Harrelson is a one of a kind kind of announcer...and that's probably why he's so polarizing.  Fans of the Southsiders love the guy and his unabashed homerism.  Others, well, others have gone so far to try and "Heave the Hawk". Well, regardless how you feel, nothing...

Pelfrey trying to avoid losing three straight starts

Impressive offensive production, particularly from Alexei Ramirez, has spurred the Chicago White Sox's four-game winning streak over the Minnesota Twins. Jose Quintana would surely appreciate some help from the bats. Ramirez and the White Sox look to give Quintana some needed support as he tries to win Tuesday night for the first time since he last faced the Twins a month ago...

Diamond pitches into 7th of Twins' 4-3 win

Scott Diamond pitched into the seventh inning for his first win since June, and the Minnesota Twins avoided a three-game sweep by beating the Chicago White Sox 4-3 on Wednesday. Diamond (6-11) allowed three runs and five hits in 6 1-3 innings to earn his first big league win since June 20 against the White Sox. Since then, he was 0-5 with a 6.20 ERA in eight starts and spent more...

John Danks settles in after rough start for Wsox

In a lost season, John Danks found something encouraging. Danks allowed four runs in the first two innings of the Chicago White Sox's 4-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. From his perspective, though, the next five innings were more important. ''From the third inning on, that's what I hope to be from this moment on - a groundball machine that's throwing...

Twins take early lead, hold on to beat White Sox

The Twins jumped on White Sox starter John Danks early and pulled out a 4-3 win at U.S. Cellular Field on Wednesday. Twins lefthander Diamond 6-11 faltered some late but can still feel good about his outing as he snapped a five-game losing streak that went back to June 20. Over 61/3 innings Diamond gave up three runs on five hits and two walks - enough for a quality start. He entered...

Minnesota enduring all types of stomach-churning losses lately

At least the shellackings are over well before the ninth inning. A night after handing the Twins their second double-digit losing margin in the span of a week, the American League Central Division's worst team gave Minnesota an unneeded reminder that the close ones hurt, too. Three well-hit balls in the ninth inning of a 4-3 defeat -- the Twins' 10th in their last 13 outings...

Mauer makes progess afrer concussion

Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer provided enough encouraging signs during his workout Thursday that general manager Terry Ryan and manager Ron Gardenhire remain optimistic he will play again this season after a concussion. After Mauer spent three days at home, he returned to the ballpark to do some cardio exercise and leg work. He hasn't resumed baseball activities, but that...

Minnesota Twins rookie hazing got real weird

With some MLB teams making their final road trips of the season, rookie hazing season is upon us. The Minnesota Twins used the opportunity to dress pitcher Cole De Vries up as a slutty school girl – complete with a wig, tied tank top, plaid skirt, and fishnet stockings. Talk about no mercy. De Vries was a pretty good sport about the whole thing, uploading the below picture to his...

Finally Acquired -- 1997 Donruss Signature Series Auto: Paul Konerko

I recently saw a post over at Dodger Penguin in which Matthew landed a Paul Konerko auto. I've wanted Paul's auto for some time, and had the card I was after in mind, but it always slipped my mind to make a real push towards acquiring it.I decided enough was enough and put some effort into knocking it off of my Cardboard Bucket List. For under $7 delivered this on-card beauty...

Erik Johnson Dazzles, Picks up First Win

There's nothing like a win on dog day. Well a win that mattered would've been nice. Either way, here's a look into the rare victory on the south side. In his first two major league starts, Erik Johnson got no help. No, he didn't look great, but as we have said, sometimes poor play behind you can mess you up in the head and help you fall into a poor outing. But...

Pelfrey struggles in Twins' 4-3 loss to White Sox

Mike Pelfrey came into Tuesday's game struggling and a team that appears to have his number kept him on a downward slope. Pelfrey (5-13) lost his third consecutive start, giving up three runs in just 4 1-3 innings as the Minnesota Twins lost 4-3 to the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Pelfrey's early struggles had to do with a poor curveball...
