Joe Mauer was once considered the face of the Minnesota Twins franchise.

Now, that same franchise is looking to get rid of their former No. 1 overall pick. Mauer has been placed on revocable waivers.

Teams normally put players on waivers on August, so this is common. However, if he is claimed, then the Twins can work out a trade or decide to pull him back and keep him.

With the recent moves by the Boston Red Sox to dump salary, the team could bring in Maurer with the right price.

He still has six years left on his contract with the Twins, worth $138 million.
