To make room for Morneau, the club optioned first baseman Chris Parmelee to Triple-A Rochester.Morneau has not played since April 30 as he's been sidelined with a sore left wrist. He's eligible to come off the disabled list on Wednesday prior to Minnesota's game in Detroit.Morneau, who was not in the Twins' clubhouse after Tuesday's 5-0 loss to Cleveland, has taken batting practice the last two days to test his wrist. After taking between 30-40 swings on Monday, he seemed to spend more time in the cage on Tuesday at Target Field. Clearly, the wrist felt good enough for him to be activated. In 20 games this season before going on the DL, Morneau played just four games at first base and 16 games as the Twins' designated hitter. But manager Ron Gardenhire said Morneau wants to return as the team's f...

Gardy faces decision regarding Morneau

MINNEAPOLIS Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau took part in live batting practice on Monday as he continues to test his sore left wrist. After taking about 30-40 swings on the field, Morneau said everything felt good with his wrist. The injury put him on the 15-day disabled list on May 5, although the move is retroactive to May 1. "It's getting better still...

Twins shuffle roster, send Doumit to DL

After Wednesday's 11-7 win over the Tigers, the Minnesota Twins announced that catcher Ryan Doumit was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right calf strain. To fill his spot on the roster, outfielder Ben Revere will be called up from Triple-A Rochester prior to Thursday's series finale in Detroit. Doumit was 2-for-3 with an RBI Wednesday but left the game after the...

Twins' Mauer searching for answers at plate

MINNEAPOLIS Joe Mauer is a former MVP and a three-time batting champion, but the Twins catcher is currently slumping. After going 0-for-3 on Tuesday in Minnesota's loss to Cleveland, Mauer is now batting .270 this season. He has just eight hits in 46 at-bats (.174) this month three doubles and two RBI although he has drawn 12 walks during that stretch. All of that has come...

Improved velocity from Pavano 'a good sign'

MINNEAPOLIS Before Monday's start, it was revealed that Minnesota Twins right-hander Carl Pavano had inflammation in his right shoulder after having an MRI performed after his last start. Given that news -- not major, but certainly worth noting -- all eyes were on the 36-year-old Pavano on Monday when he faced first-place Cleveland. The big question, then, after Pavano and...

Twins Pitcher Believes in “Bigfoot”

“Bigfoot” is real, or at least it is according to Minnesota Twins pitcher Anthony Swarzak. Yes, that’s right, we are talking about Sasquatch, the big, furry, Shaquille O’neal sized animal that is supposed to walk around in the forest on two feet. Tyler Mason, of FSNORTH, reports that the Minnesota Twins’ clubhouse is buzzing with “Bigfoot” talk, and Anthony Swarzak...

Diamond's A Mother's Best Friend

Scott Diamond took the hill on Mother's Day for his second start this season after throwing 7 shutout innings against the Angels a week ago.  He continued his shutout streak, throwing for 7 more shutout innings, 14 in a row.  Watch out Orel Hershiser and your 59 consecutive scoreless innings! Diamond helped the Twins to get to that seemingly impossible feat of 10 wins on...

Twins' bullpen displays its value at Detroit

When Twins starter Nick Blackburn left Wednesday's game after just two innings, Minnesota's bullpen knew it was in for a long night. On Wednesday in Detroit, Blackburn was gift-wrapped a 5-1 lead in the second inning but gave it all back and left the game with the Twins trailing, 6-5, after two. It was the shortest start of the year for Blackburn, who had "an issue...

Mauer, Willingham look to bust Lowe's streak

While some believed Derek Lowe's better years may be behind him following a disappointing 2011, it's safe to say he still has plenty left in the tank. The right-hander, however, hasn't experienced much success against the Minnesota Twins over the course of his career. Seeking a fourth consecutive win, Lowe looks to help the visiting Cleveland Indians continue their...

Twins-Tigers Preview

Wins have been hard to come by for the Minnesota Twins this season, and especially difficult to earn against the Detroit Tigers in recent years. They're hoping their former MVP can provide a boost. Justin Morneau is set to come off the disabled list when Minnesota looks to avoid a 15th loss in 18 contests at Comerica Park in the opener of a two-game set Wednesday night. The...
