MINNEAPOLIS Minnesota Twins designated hitter Justin Morneau, who has been on the disabled list with a sore right wrist since May 6, took about 25 swings off a tee on Saturday as part of his rehabilitation process. Morneau said he did not feel discomfort during the swings. Although he and manager Ron Gardenhire have not set a specific return date, the 2006 AL MVP said he plans to travel on the Twins' upcoming road trip to Detroit, Milwaukee and Chicago. After sitting out since May 1, Morneau is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday for the Twins' first game in Cleveland, and he said he's hopeful to return then if his progress continues."We've taken this much time, so there's no sense in rushing through it and then taking steps backward and missing more time," Morneau said. The 30-year-old designated hitter, who is batting .230 with four home runs and nine RBI, said he'll continue to increase his work in the next few days. After receiving a cortisone shot on Tuesday, Morneau is steadily working toward taking live batting practice, which will be the true test of how ready he is to return.Morneau had surgery to repair his wrist last October, and doctors told him the soreness he's been experiencing is part of the normal healing process. He's working to build strength in the areas around the wrist, and he said that as long as pain doesn't affect his swings, he'll be able to return."The main thing is how it feels when I'm swinging, if I'm able to swing the way I want to," Morneau said. "The pain level doesn't matter, but if it's affecting the way I'm swinging, then that's what we're trying to take care of."Follow Joan Niesen on Twitter.
