MINNEAPOLIS The Minnesota Twins added outfield depth Saturday, claiming outfielder Clete Thomas off waivers from Detroit.
Thomas, 28, has spent parts of three seasons with the Tigers. He appeared in three games this season but did not have an at-bat before he was designated for assignment on Thursday. Thomas played a career-high 102 games in 2009 and batted .240 with 39 RBIs and seven homers in 275 at-bats. He also saw time in 40 games during the 2008 season.
To make room for Thomas on the 40-man roster, the Twins placed right-hander Scott Baker on the 60-day disabled list. Baker is out for the season with an elbow injury that requires surgery, which has a rehab of at least six months.
Thomas will join the Twins prior to Sundays game against Texas. Hell wear No. 36, which up until this season was worn by closer Joe Nathan. Minnesota will need to make a roster move before they can add Thomas to the 25-man roster.

Francisco Liriano (credits below) Francisco Liriano is akin to that crazy woman that most men have had a fleeting relationship with throughout their adult lives. She comes and she goes, due to an inexplicable dose of craziness interspersed through some really amazing stretches. Things may have started out great but once the crazy comes out it can never be truly killed off. ...

MINNEAPOLIS Arms extended, feet off the ground and a smile on his face. That's how Kent Hrbek will forever be remembered the bronze version of him, at least.

CHICAGO (AP) -- Gerald Laird homered among his three hits to back a strong outing by Rick Porcello and lead the Detroit Tigers to a 5-2 victory over the White Sox on Sunday, snapping Chicago's four-game winning streak.
Porcello (1-0) was sharp against an aggressive Chicago lineup. He allowed five hits, struck out four and didn't issue a walk in 7 2-3 innings.
The Twins rallied for wins in back-to-back games against the Angels. It was fun to watch their bats come alive. It also was a reminder that the Twins are likely to fall behind in many games this season.
Minnesota already has lost Scott Baker for the season with an elbow issue, and what's left of the starting rotation isn't exactly filled with aces.
It could be another difficult...
Over the weekend the Detroit Tigers welcomed in the Tampa Bay Rays, who were coming off a sweep of the New York Yankees, to Comerica Park. With plenty of strong pitching, this series was bound to be good.
In game one of the series, Rick Porcello took the mound against highly touted prospect Matt Moore. Porcello and Matt Moore would go pitch for pitch with each other. Going into...
