Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony is becoming a big fan of Major League Baseball's seven-day concussion list.
The team placed franchise-face Joe Mauer on it Tuesday a week after fellow catcher Ryan Doumit spent a week out of the lineup in a similar situation. Mauer took multiple foul balls off his mask in Monday's loss to the Mets and was scratched from the lineup Tuesday against Detroit when he began to feel dizzy during batting practice.
A Detroit doctor examined him and found some concussion-like symptoms. The same thing happened to Doumitduring Minnesota's previous road trip.
"It was mainly he felt a little dizzy and out of sorts a little bit," Antony said of Mauer. "He did the baseline test, and they were pretty certain that he had the symptoms of a possible concussion. When you have that, that's why this rule is in place."
In all likelihood, it's a minor precaution like it was for Doumit. But any injury to a household name like Mauer raises some concern.
