With multiple players nursing injuries, the Minnesota Twins recalled catcher Drew Butera from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday. Butera will head to Anaheim in time for Tuesday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels. A corresponding 25-man roster move has not yet been made but will be made Tuesday afternoon, the Twins announced. It's likely Minnesota will wait on the result of Justin Morneau's visit with Dr. Thomas Varecka in the Twin Cities. Morneau left Monday's game with a wrist injury and traveled back to see Dr. Varecka on Tuesday afternoon. If the news isn't good from Morneau's visit, there's a good chance the Twins' first baseman could land on the disabled list. Minnesota is also currently carrying 13 pitches on the roster, so there's also a possibility that a reliever could be on the move when the roster move is made. After spending much of the past two seasons on the Twins' major league roster, Butera started the year with Rochester. In 15 games this year with the Red Wings, he was batting .279 withfive RBI, three doubles and one home run. He was a .178 hitter in two seasons with the Twins (142 games) and had a combined 36 RBI and four home runs from 2010-11. Adding Butera gives the Twins insurance at the catcher position if Joe Mauer and Ryan Doumit are both in the lineup, or if Mauer is unable to play for several days. Mauer missed Monday's game after taking a foul ball off his knee Sunday against Kansas City. It was the first game Mauer had missed all season after spending several months on the disabled list in 2011. Doumit has played 10 games at catcher, five in right field, one at first base and one as the designated hitter. Follow Tyler Mason on Twitter.
