The Minnesota Twins announced on Friday that they have placed pitchers Scott Diamond and Anthony Swarzak on the 15-day disabled list. Diamond, who was Minnesotas best starting pitcher in 2012, has been rehabbing his left elbow after having offseason surgery in December. He has yet to pitch in an official Grapefruit League game this spring. When Diamond returns from the DL possibly in April hes expected to slide into the rotation. He was 12-9 with a 3.54 ERA in 27 starts last year. Swarzak injured his ribs during a non-baseball related activity in late January. Like Diamond, he has yet to pitch in a spring training game this year. He appeared in 44 games last season, mostly in relief. Swarzak is pegged to return to the Twins bullpen again this season. The Twins also optioned outfielder Joe Benson and pitcher Pedro Hernandez to Triple-A Rochester on Friday. Benson was a candidate to earn a spot on the 25-man roster as Minnesotas center fielder, but he was beat out by Aaron Hicks. In 18 spring training games, Benson hit just .151 with one home run and three RBI in 53 at-bats. Right-hander Luis Perdomo was also reassigned to minor league camp on Friday.
