Dominican Republic Wins World Baseball Classic; Robinson Cano MVP

The Dominican Republic is much more than a great place to vacation now (been there; loved it--highly recommend it). The small island nation is now home to the World Baseball Classic champions! Puerto Rico never had a chance against the DR in San Francisco Tuesday night. Edwin Encarnacion got the scoring started with a two run double in the first, and that would end up being...

Open letter to Hal Steinbrenner: May we start calling you “Isiah?”

Dear madam or sir,If I were you, I’d buy one of those authentic Yankee Stadium $18 rain ponchos, the souped-up garbage bag liners, and wear it everywhere. Because vegetables could be flying, and some will be on target. Don't worry about tomatoes. But an acorn squash, that can really hurt. If I were you, I’d hire a taster. And a guy who carries caged canaries. And one of...

Jeter limited to minor-league games

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman says shortstop Derek Jeter will play only in minor league spring training games for the rest of spring training. The move could cut short how much time Jeter would miss if he starts the season on the 15-day disabled list. By not playing in major league exhibitions, the Yankees want to be able to backdate Jeter's start time on the...

Familiar face seen at Yankees complex

A familiar face may soon be rejoining the Yankees. According to Trenton Thunder beat writer Josh Norris, former Yankee Chien-Ming Wang was visible at the Yankees’ spring training complex down in Tampa, Fla. this morning. However, Wang has not signed a contract with the team just yet. The Yankees had scouted Wang in the WBC, where he pitched well for his native Taiwan, going 1-0...

Links of the Day 3/22/13

Happy basketball day part 2! May today go a bit more smoothly than yesterday. Fangraphs is the first place I’ve seen that doesn’t rate Miguel Sano as the Twins’ top prospect. You have to dig deep during the tournament. And another awful GIF from day one of the tournament. Ouch. SCOREBOARD Lots of basketball, no important teams.
