Boston Red Sox
Mark Buehrle was magnificent for the Miami Marlins outside of one inning but that was enough for the Boston Red Sox who won 2-1 on Tuesday. The loss moved the Marlins to 3-8 in June as they continued to bring back memories of June 2011. Miami is now back in fourth place in the division and has also fallen six games behind the fist place Washington Nationals after starting the month tied for the division lead.
Buehrle allowed two runs in seven innings with both those runs coming in his final inning on the mound. The loss was charged to Buehrle who is now 5-7 on the year despite pitching much better than that record seems. The veteran surrendered five hits, walked one and struck out four. Entering that seventh inning, Boston had only one hit on the day but added four more in the frame. Steve Cishek faced his hometown team for a second straight day and put together a scoreless inning. Edward Mujica and Randy Choate combined to work a scoreless ninth that kept the deficit...

The Marlins' new ballpark, for better or for worse, gets people talking. People always seem to have an opinion about Fenway Park, too, although the two stadiums won't often be compared in the same sentence. Nevertheless, NESN Nation's Dan Duquette asked our Twitter followers if there was anything about Marlins Park that fans wouldn't mind seeing back in Boston. Check...
MIAMI (AP) -- Carlos Zambrano, one of baseball's best-hitting pitchers, is now under orders to cool it in batting practice.
Zambrano complained of a stiff back in his most recent start Saturday, and manager Ozzie Guillen said lusty swings can't help.
Zambrano is a career .239 hitter with 24 home runs, including one this season. He's expected to make his next scheduled...
The Miami Marlins put an end to their six game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Monday. Playing with the roof open at Marlins Park for the first time since April, Miami was able to move into a third place tie with the idle New York Mets. The Marlins are now 3-7 in June.
Josh Johnson continued his run of terrific starts with a seven inning effort...
What's Josh Johnson's problem? When the Marlins ace was asked about Josh Beckett, he expressed admiration for his former teammate, admitting he was a legend... almost. Almost? What else does Beckett have to do, Josh? NESN Nation's Dan Duquette has more in the video above. Join NESN Nation: In-game home page | Twitter | Facebook
Clay Buchholz outpitched Mark Buehrle and the Boston Red Sox beat the Miami Marlins 2-1 Tuesday night, ending a four-game losing streak.
The game was scoreless until Kelly Shoppach hit an RBI double in the seventh inning and came home on a single by Mike Aviles.
Logan Morrison hit a leadoff home run in the Miami seventh.
Buchholz (7-2) allowed five hits and struck out a season...
MIAMI (AP) -- Desperate for a turnaround, the Miami Marlins opened their retractable roof for the first time in nearly two months Monday night, took to the outdoor setting and snapped a six-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over Josh Beckett and the Boston Red Sox.
Josh Johnson outpitched his former teammate, and rookie Donovan Solano drove in two runs as the Marlins improved to...
The Miami Marlins' retractable roof is open for their game against the Boston Red Sox, a surprising development with South Florida's steamy rainy season under way.
A high-pressure system brought unusually dry weather to the area, and half an hour before Monday's night game started, workers at the Marlins' new ballpark opened the roof, treating fans to clear skies...
MIAMI -- Josh Johnson allowed one run in seven innings as the Miami Marlins snapped a six-game losing streak with a 4-1 over the Boston Red Sox on Monday. Rookie Donovan Solano drove in two runs and Gaby Sanchez knocked in one for the Marlins. Former Marlin Josh Beckett fell to 4-7, allowing four runs in seven innings in his first start against his former club. Beckett went 41...
Two teams that haven’t been too successful winning games or making money against the MLB odds recently finish off a nonetheless interesting interleague series as the Boston Red Sox and Miami Marlins go at it Tuesday and Wednesday at Marlins Park.
Boston, as we pointed out in a “Free MLB Picks” piece at SBRForum.com, came into this series having just gotten swept three games...
Yep, this team is playing like crap again.
Josh Beckett made his return to Florida and the Marlins welcomed him by dropped scored all four of their runs in the first two innings while Josh Johnson contained the offense as Miami gets the 4-1 win.
It started real quick as Jose Reyes got a leadoff triple off of Beckett and Donovan Solano managed to get enough of a Beckett pitch...

MIAMI (AP) -- Felix Doubront allowed only three hits while pitching a career-high seven innings, and the Boston Red Sox beat the reeling Miami Marlins 10-2 Wednesday night.
Doubront (7-3), coming off the worst start of his career, retired 16 in a row and took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. He struck out nine and allowed two runs.
The left-hander hadn't pitched more than...
The Red Sox offense is mired in a "team slump," that much is obvious. The question is, how to fix it? Granted, the Red Sox have had to face some top-caliber pitching lately -- seeing the likes of Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez, Jordan Zimmermann and Josh Johnson the last four days -- but eventually good teams have to face good pitching. On Tuesday night the Sox face a...
On Tuesday night, I tweeted* that it seemed the Red Sox/Marlins game had been on for "like six hours now." Always a fan of hyperbole, it was more a statement to the fact that Mark Buehrle was pitching in a game that was now over the three-hour mark. While most understood the point I was making, @rRaindog63 (also known as Bill outside of cyberspace, a quick Googlin'...
After falling for the fourth straight game last night 4-1, the Boston Red Sox look to get back on track in the middle game of a three-game set with the Miami Marlins at Marlins Park in the little Havana section of Miami.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the Marlins television market...
