In case you've been living under a rock and/or living outside of the convection oven that is Washington DC (say, Alaska): there's a heat wave going on in DC. Friday night, Stephen Strasburg wilted in the 96 degree heat (again). On Saturday, Gio Gonzalez earned his 12th win with 6 innings of 3 hit-ball in 101 degree heat. Tyler Clippard earned his 14th save. After the game, a sweat-soaked Clippard explained in his postgame interview with MASN that it was actually140 degrees in the home bullpen at Nationals Park today: "I think one of the grounds crew guys came down and took the temperature of the turf and it was like 140 degrees out there. So we had to sit up in the tunnel in the shade. But it was still pretty warm."(Tyler Clippard, via postgame interview on MASN, 7/7/2012) 140 degrees is pretty warm. That must be a new record or something... (Screencap via MASN/TV) Befriend Nats Enquirer on Facebook. Follow on Twitter.

Here's Bryce Harper receiving his NL All-Star jersey from Mike Rizzo

Up above: video of Bryce Harper receiving his NL All-Star jersey from Mike Rizzo on the field at Nationals Park before Sunday's game (video via NatsTown2K10). And here's Harper, via Washington Post, on his upcoming trip to KC: "Going home would have been pretty good. I still get to see my family out there and that’s the biggest thing. I think I’m still going...

Ryan Zimmerman Engaged

Another hot wife will soon be joining the Baseball’s Hottest Wives fold.  Ryan Zimmerman and Heather Downen have known each other for the past two years.  Ryan is the second highest paid third baseman in the MLB behind only A-Rod and Heather works for an apps development company, but unfortunately its not mine.  They live together in Arlington with their dog Miley.  If you’re...

Nats SS Desmond scratched from All-Star game

Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond has been scratched from the All-Star game because of an abdominal injury. The decision was made Saturday after Desmond consulted with team doctors, management and NL manager Tony La Russa. Desmond has been dealing with an oblique injury since mid-June. He has missed only one game this season, and having time off during the All-Star break should help...

Bryce Harper is an All-Star: Photo courtesy of USATODAY Time to exhale for the Washington Nationals’ fans. Bryce Harper has been named to the 2012 MLB All-Star Game. Here's Bryce Harper handing out freeze pops to fans

In case you've been living under a rock and/or living outside of the convection oven that is Washington DC (say, Alaska): there's a heat wave going on in DC. Also, Bryce Harper was named to the NL All-Star team on Saturday, joining Bob Feller and Doc Gooden as the only teens in history to, like, be named All-Stars or something. In spite of the heat on Saturday (140 degrees...

The Nationals, The Orioles And First-Half Dreams To Remember

The 2012 All-Star break is here, and Washington is four games up on the NL East. Baltimore is also second in the AL East, somehow. It’s unclear which is more unlikely, but I will take them both and always remember fondly what was one hell of a half-season of baseball. The Nats, seemingly a year away from entering an extended run as contenders, have baseball’s third-best record...

Bisons Win 2nd Straight Vs. Syracuse

Jarrett Hoffpauir gave the Bisons trouble on Friday but not enough to put the Chiefs in the win column. After a rough month of June, it appears that the Bisons have straightened their act as they are off to a better start to July. After losing their first two games of the month to Durham, Buffalo has swung back and won three of their last four games, taking down Syracuse on Friday...

Rockies-Nationals Preview

The NL East-leading Washington Nationals haven't been this far above .500 since 2005. The Colorado Rockies are at their lowest point since that same season. Coming off an abbreviated outing, Nationals All-Star right-hander Stephen Strasburg will try to avoid losing three straight starts for the first time in Friday night's series opener against the visiting Rockies. Down...
