Tyler Moore hit a three-run homer and Danny Espinosa homered and drove in three runs, leading the Washington Nationals over the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-2 Sunday. Moore homered in the eighth inning off rookie reliever Bryan Morris and broke open a 3-2 game. Moore homered for the first time this year after hitting 10 in 75 games last season as a rookie. Nationals star Bryce Harper was ejected in the first inning for disputing a checked-swing third strike. He tried to hold up on a 2-2 pitch, but third base umpire John Hirschbeck ruled Harper swung. Harper stood outside the batter's box, stared at Hirschbeck for a few moments and dropped his bat. Hirschbeck tossed last season's NL Rookie of the Year. Starling Marte hit a leadoff homer in the first, his fourth home run in five games for Pittsburgh.

Was Bryce Harper’s Ejection Justified?

We all know that Bryce Harper can be a hot head at times. Do we need to bring up the fact that he slammed a bat into a wall and hit himself in the face? But he is young and plays with his heart on his sleeve, and this is why we love him. I am never really the one to take the side of a player when he gets ejected, but when I look at the video again, I have to say Harper did nothing...

Bryce Harper ejected by John Hirschbeck, who was looking to toss him (Video)

Your browser does not support iframes. Bryce Harper had a very quick afternoon during the Washington Nationals’ 6-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday. Harper had only one at-bat, as he was thrown out by umpire John Hirschbeck in the top of the first inning for arguing over a check swing. The call looked questionable and the ejection even more so. Harper reportedly dropped...

Star's Shares: 5/6/13

Fantasy owners will want to marry Tyler Moore Photo Credit: Miss Chatter   Most fantasy writers have no problem recommending players you should go after, but do they really pick up all the players they hype up? I’ll answer for them: no. Here on “Star’s Shares,” we’ll discuss players yours truly has personally invested in throughout the three leagues I’m in...

Nationals' Ryan Zimmerman Return From DL Stint

Good news came Friday for the Washington Nationals, as they welcomed the return of third baseman Ryan Zimmerman to the starting lineup against the Pittsburgh Pirates after his recent stint on the disabled list due to a hamstring injury. However, joy quickly turned to disappointment, as Zimmerman marked his return with a 0-4, 4 strikeout 'Golden Sombrero' performance, three...

Nationals star Bryce Harper ejected in first inning vs. Pittsburgh

Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper was ejected in the very first inning against Pittsburgh for arguing a check-swing strike three call.

The Nationals Could Catch The Braves in the Next 5 Games

Washington has won four of their last five games with three starting pitchers (Zimmermann, Haren, Gonzalez) recording curly Ws.  The Nats will now host the Detroit Tigers with a day of rest on each end of the two-game series.  The rest comes much needed and deserved, as they have played 17 straight games in as many days. Streaky has been the term to describe the 2013 Washington...

Video: Fan gets drilled in the back by home run at Pirates game

Your browser does not support iframes. It is always wise to keep your head on a swivel while attending a baseball game in person. Unfortunately, this fan learned that lesson the hard way during Sunday's Pirates-Nationals game in Pittsburgh.Watch as the unsuspecting guy takes a menacing home run ball off his backside that was hit by Washington's Tyler Moore in the eighth inning...

Washington Nationals Bryce Harper ejected in latest player-umpire dustup

The Time I Partied with John Popper, AKA Blues Traveler in Vegas

This is a baseball post because when I was watching the Washington Nationals game the other day, I saw behind home plate that on Saturday, June 8th; Blues Traveler will be the on-field concert. The radio advertisement had me grinning and thinking of my connection to this man. It’s also a story of how if you are willing to let it – sometimes the fun just finds you. A few months...

Nats Talk On The Go: Episode 52

The Nats did exactly what we thought they needed to over the last week, as Craig mentioned in Episode 51 of the podcast. We talk about Jordan Zimmermann's insane performance, Bryce Harper's ejection and injury, and Ryan Zimmerman's throwing, among many other things. Enjoy the listen and pay attention for the word of the week and share it with us on Twitter.

Clint Hurdle is drunk

A 5-4 loss to the Washington Nationals. I can normally deal with that. Stephen Strasburg pitched for the Nats. They are supposed to be one of the best teams in the NL. The bullpen was horribly mismanaged in the loss but that is to be expected. Clint Hurdle has done this before. Even then, I…

Video: Hurdle Talks Locke, Bullpen; Strasburg More Efficient

Three videos today from the after the Nationals’ 5-4 win against the Pirates at PNC Park. Clint Hurdle’s interview is broken up into two parts and I was even able to snag some of Stephen Strasburg’s clubhouse interview. I’ll have a recap of today’s game up this evening but for now enjoy the videos.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Washington Nationals – Game 30

Boy.  That Andrew McCutchen really kills the Nationals doesn’t he?  Cutch has eleven homers against the Natinals (not a mistake).  The only team he has more against is the Brewers.  That’s stunning considering the Nationals are 13th in starts against for Cutch.  In 24 games Cutch has a slash line of  .456/.514/.933 for an OPS…

Pirates fan gets hit by home run ball in the back (Video)

Back on Sunday, one Pittsburgh Pirates fan had the unfortunate honor of getting hit by a home run ball while he was trying to run away from it. The moment happened in the top of the 8th inning as Washington Nationals outfielder Tyler Moore hit a three-run shot off of Pirates pitcher Bryan Morris into the left field seats at PNC Park. Watch as the replay shows the fan getting...
