Ugly loss to Braves not the worst part of the day for sordid White Sox

The Chicago White Sox are at the bottom of MLB's barrel, both in terms of on-field production and basic decency.

During the team's ugly 9-0 loss to the Braves dropped the White Sox to 0-4 on the young season, reports surfaced that the organization plans to bring back pitcher Mike Clevinger, who was investigated in 2023 after the mother of one of his children, Olivia Finestead, alleged multiple instances where Clevinger physically abused her and her child.

Finestead went on the record in a January 2023 article from The Athletic and described in horrific detail the alleged assault, which included Clevinger "throwing 'chew spit on a screaming infant child' and strangling her."

Clevinger denied the allegations and was ultimately not suspended by MLB. During an April 14, 2023 start, he shamelessly used Kanye West's "Gold Digger" as his walk-out song and refused to answer questions about his poor lack of judgment afterward.

If that doesn't sound like the kind of guy a team should want in its clubhouse, congratulations: you're more qualified for a job in the White Sox front office than the people currently in it.

Clevinger went 9-9 in 2023 and posted a 3.77 earned run average. But there's a reason no other organization would touch Clevinger with a 10-foot pole this offseason. Some things are bigger than baseball.

As bad as the White Sox have been through their first four games, it's only fitting they'd be the only team willing to take on Clevinger. After all, misery loves company.
