The Colorado Rockies went off on Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw on Wednesday with three homers to win 8-5 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez hit two off Kershaw while Wilin Rosario hit another.  Gonzalez has hit seven home runs in nine games after going 12 games without a single one.

Kershaw had only allowed two solo home runs through seven innings, but after a long eighth inning where  the Dodgers took a 3-2 lead, Kershaw came back on the mound giving up a run and then a second home run by Gonzalez to put the Rockies ahead 5-3.

The Dodgers came back in the ninth inning, tying the game 5-5, but In the bottom of the ninth, Jason Giambi finished off the Dodgers with a three-run homer off Scott Elbert to lead the Rockies to a 8-5 victory.

This was Kershaw's first time giving up three home runs in a game.

Worst call of the MLB season so far?

Umpire Tim Welke blew a call so badly in the Dodgers-Rockies game on Wednesday that it’s almost comical to see how much he missed it. Dodgers infielder Jerry Hairston Jr. grounded a ball to Rockies third baseman Chris Nelson who made a diving stop and threw across the diamond in the top of the 6th. His throw pulled Todd Helton a couple feet off the first base bag, yet Welke...

Rockies 8, Dodgers 5

Pinch hitter Jason Giambi launched a three-run homer off Scott Elbert in the ninth inning, lifting the Colorado Rockies to an 8-5 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday. With first base open and one out, the Dodgers elected to pitch to Giambi. Carlos Gonzalez was waiting on deck - he'd hit two home runs off NL Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw earlier in the game. The...

Rox win 8-5 on Giambi Walk-off

The Colorado Rockies topped the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-5 Wednesday afternoon when Jason Giambi sent the fans at Coors Field home happy. Needing only a sacrifice fly for the win, Giambi sat on a fastball and didn't miss it resulting in a walk-off home run.

Dodgers won't operate with set payroll under Kasten

This is how it largely worked for Ned Colletti in recent years: Frank McCourt would give him a number, and then expect the general manager to bring in the team payroll at or under that figure. So maybe he loses a Hiroki Kuroda because he costs a tad too much, and then tries to make up for it by signing Aaron Harang and Chris Capuano. Those payroll juggling days, however, may be...

Another rocky start for Rockies' Chacin

The Colorado Rockies came close, but they weren't able to overcome another poor start by Jhoulys Chacin and lost 7-6 to the Dodgers. He was supposed to be their ace-in-waiting this season, but could well be on his way to Triple-A Colorado Springs for a refresher course. Manager Jim Tracy, who doesn't tend to be overly critical of his players in his postgame remarks...

Tim Welke makes one of the worst calls in the history of bad calls in favor of the Rockies

This makes you wonder if the MLB should be hiring umpires with better eyesight. Watching the officiating in baseball can sometimes be so frustrating that you want to smash your TV. There has been no call worse than the one against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday though. If you want to watch a video of it you have to go here because the MLB is on top of ripping every single...

Where Matt Kemp’s April Fits in History

Over at ESPN yesterday, Jayson Stark posed the question of whether Matt Kemp‘s amazing April performance is the best April in the history of the game. Stark decided to tackle the question by looking only at the players that had matched or beaten him in a group of categories that contained BA, OBP, and SLG, but also HR, XBH, R, and RBI. I have a great deal of respect for Stark...

MLB Instant Replay: I Luv U, Do You Luv Me?

Yesterday, it took Colorado Rockies manager Clint Hurdle approximately 40 seconds — depending on where you start and stop your timer — to argue The Worst Call of the Season. Meanwhile, in St. Louis, it took the umpiring crew about 2 minutes and 50 seconds to gather in the infield, discuss Carlos Beltran‘s hit, reconvene in their underground video review chamber, and then return...

Kemp, Hamilton named Player of the Month

Los Angeles Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp has been unanimously voted the Budweiser Presents National League Player of the Month for April, while Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers was selected as the AL recipient. Through 23 April contests, Kemp led the Majors with a .417 (35-for-84) batting average and 12 home runs while ranking tops in the National League in RBI (25), hits...

Dodgers-Cubs Preview

Matt Kemp receives most of the credit for the Los Angeles Dodgers' solid start, though the pitching staff has been pretty good as well. Chad Billingsley will take the mound when the Dodgers continue their road trip Friday against the Chicago Cubs, who return home after their trip ended on a sour note. Kemp is off to an incredible start for the Dodgers (17-8), leading the majors...

New Dodger ownership needs more than Magic

Wednesday marked the dawning of a new era in Los Angeles, a day of celebration as the new ownership group of the Dodgers was introduced in a news conference at Dodger Stadium. The Guggenheim Baseball Partners are the new stewards of the franchise, purchasing the club for a record $2 billion from Frank McCourt. New controlling partner Mark Walter said the chance was too great to...

Handicapping The NL West

Dodgers Consider for a moment that the Dodgers are sitting pretty at 17-7 with a 4 game lead in the National League West division.  That represents quite an improvement over what was barely a .500 team a year ago.  Is the fast start a fluke, a result of favorable scheduling match-ups, or is it sustainable?  Is it some combination of those 3? Los Angeles Dodgers – 17-7 Arizona...
