HOUSTON (AP) -- Brian Bixler drove in a career-high three runs on three hits, including his first career homer, and Justin Maxwell and Brian Bogusevic also homered as the Houston Astros held off the Kansas City Royals for a 9-7 win Monday night. J.A. Happ (5-7) yielded four hits and two runs in 6-plus innings to break a four-game losing streak. It was his first start since allowing 11 hits and eight runs -- both career highs -- in Houston's 10-0 loss to San Francisco in which Matt Cain threw a perfect game. Maxwell hit a two-run homer after Bogusevic's solo shot in Houston's five-run eighth inning. Jonathan Sanchez (1-3) allowed six hits and four runs in six innings in his second start since a month-long stint on the disabled list with tendinitis in his left biceps.

Young Astros being exposed

Although the Houston Astros are running around a dozen games under .500 after the first 66 games of the Major League Baseball season they COULD be a lot closer except that what separates winning teams from losers is working against the Astros. Houston does not have much offensive punch in most games. In addition the club is not one of the better teams in moving runners into scoring...

The Houston Astros placed right-handed pitcher Bud Norris on the 15-day disabled list Sunday because of a sprained left knee. The move is retroactive to June 12. Norris sprained his knee pitching against the Giants on Tuesday in San Francisco. He was scheduled to start Sunday against the Rangers, but the Astros called up left-hander Dallas Keuchel from Triple-A Oklahoma City...

Astros' inexperience apparent at the plate

HOUSTON In many ways the Astros' first two games against the Royals resembled their last two against the Giants last week, with both sets of back-to-back affairs serving as a microcosm of their season as a whole. One night after bashing their way to victory the Astros were handcuffed by maligned Kansas City right-hander Luke Hochevar, who carried a shutout into the eighth inning...

Royals-Astros Preview

The Houston Astros are looking forward to returning home after a disastrous road trip, though the surging Kansas City Royals don't plan to make things any easier for them.
