Sliding Into Home:
- Michael Pineda is one step closer to a return after a successful outing in the Florida State League:
- Kevin Youkilis missed Sunday's game in Seattle with lower back stiffness, but the injury isn't anything major. “It’s nothing like it was before,” Youkilis said. “Just needs a little rest.”
- And in case you missed it, Chien Ming Wang opted out of his Yankees contract last week and signed and will start for Toronto on Tuesday against the White Sox. Wang had a 2.33 ERA in nine starts at Triple-A. Personally, I would have liked to see him get a chance to start the for the Yankees.

LONG ROAD TO RECOVERY
Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter took another step in his rehab by increasing his baseball activity on Monday by taking ground balls and swinging the bat.
Let’s be honest here. If the Yankees could be rid of Alex Rodriguez and his contract, they’d pull the trigger on such a deal in a second. Of course, interest had waned in the third baseman — even if the Yankees were to pick up significant portions of Rodriguez’s contract — due to his overall decline.
However, at least one franchise wanted Rodriguez on their team this past...
David Phelps takes the mound in hopes of winning the series against Felix Hernandez and the Mariners. Phelps looks to continue his winning ways after allowing just one hit over six shutout innings last Tuesday against the Indians.

We are 6-1 - (an .857, winning pct., baby!) - since last week's International Juju Intervention, in which millions of fans - (maybe billions; we're beasts in China) - charged their TVs, bombarding the team with subatomic Rizzutonic particles, the Higgs bosons of baseball. But rather than taking credit, let's consider other possible reasons behind the Yankee resurgence...
New York Yankees Derek Jeter has started more baseball activities in his continued rehab at Tampa, Florida minor league complex.
Jeter starting fielding grounders hit directly at him as well as swinging a bat. Derek had been with the team through their last homestand and was seen playing catch in the outfield.
The Captain is scheduled to see the surgeon who performed the original...
Brett Gardner went 3-for-5 on Saturday. He has now hit safely in 14 of his last 16 games since May 24, batting .328 (19-for-58) over that stretch. He also has scored at least one run in 16 of his last 23 starts, including six straight from May 24-29.
Notes on the game:
If the Mariners win tonight, it will be the first time since 2002 that they have won a series against the Yankees...
I’m a die-hard New York Yankees fan. I live and breathe by defending people like Alex Rodriguez (until recently), watching Yankees’ classics and debating whether Yankees players like Don Mattingly (no) and Mike Mussina (yes) belong in the Hall of Fame. So when Andy Pettitte walked off the mound having dominated the Seattle Mariners and officially winning his 250th career game...
After winning three of four games vs. the Mariners in Seattle over the weekend, the New York Yankees get a well deserved day off before starting a three game set down in Oakland against the Athletics.

The A’s are in a Moneyball year, meaning that it is a season when this team is good.
Actually, the A’s were good last year too...
New York Yankees left-hander Andy Pettitte allowed three hits over 7 1-3 innings to earn his 250th career victory, leading the Yankees to a 3-1 win over the Seattle Mariners and in doing so becomes the 47th pitcher in major league history to reach that win total. For Pettitte the day was special for more than just his pitching.Pettitte’s son Josh Pettitte, a right-hand...
Chris Stewart had a tiebreaking RBI single in the ninth inning and David Phelps matched efforts with Felix Hernandez for six innings to help the New York Yankees beat the Seattle Mariners 2-1 on Sunday.
Ichiro Suzuki drew a walk from Yoervis Medina (1-2) to open the ninth. Jayson Nix sacrificed him to second. Then with two outs, Stewart bounced a grounder to through the left side...
The Toronto Blue Jays have elected to try and add some depth to their organizational pitching by signing right-handed pitcher Chien-Ming Wang to a minor league deal on Monday. While the terms were not announced, he had recently opted out of the New York Yankees organization to sign the deal.
The agreement comes with a little “gift” as he is going to be making the start Tuesday...
40 and Winning
Today, Andy Pettite had a day for the ages: he picked up his 250th career win on the same day that the team that has defined his career, the New York Yankees, drafted his son, Josh. By getting his team past the Mariners, Pettite raised his season record to 5-3, lowered his ERA to 3.82 and his WHIP to 1.26... which is to say, more or less his career levels. Now, it...
