PHOENIX -- Silly Putty therapy worked for family friend David Wright, so Justin Upton is giving it a try to facilitate his return from a bruised left thumb. Wright, the third baseman for the New York Mets, rolled a blob of the pink stuff between his fingers during pregame work Saturday to gain flexibility in his fractured right pinkie, and something worked -- he played that night after expressing doubts the day before. If the goo fits ... "We incorporate everything," said Upton, the Diamondbacks' right fielder. "We are trying a lot of things to get flexibility back and some of the soreness out. Im doing whatever I can. "He (Wright) is back and swinging the bat well right now. Obviously you look for any short cuts you can." The Uptons and Wrights go back a long way. The families grew up in the Norfolk. Va., area and spent a lot of time together. B. J. Upton played with Wright on traveling youth teams, and Justin played on teams with Wrights younger ...

Rays' B.J. Upton returns from DL

The Tampa Bay Rays have reinstated center fielder B.J. Upton from the 15-day disabled list. Upton had been sidelined with lower back soreness. He was hurt in an outfield collision with teammate Desmond Jennings in a spring training game against Miami on March 14. Upton went 3 for 21 in seven minor-league rehab games with Single-A Charlotte and Double-A Montgomery. Utility man...

Upton back in the lineup despite soreness

PHOENIX The soreness in Justin Upton's left thumb is irrelevant to him at this point. Upton returned to the lineup Saturday after missing four starts, and he plans to remain is his No. 3 spot in the order going forward. The medical staff told Upton he could do no further damage to the bone bruise in his thumb unless he jams it again, and it is a risk he is willing to take...

It’s time to reward David Wright with a contract extension

Usually, teams should take all the necessary precautions when thinking of handing out long-term extensions to players approaching their 30’s. Heck, the Mets heeded that warning, by not showing Jose Reyes any love and letting him walk this past offseason. However, sometimes you have to reward the face of a franchise for being there through thick and thin and in this case; it...

“Good source” believes Wright extension will eventually get done; I sure hope so

During Wednesday afternoons 14-6 loss to the Atlanta Braves, David Wright collected two hits — a single and a double — in five at-bats while driving in three runs.  With the two hits,  Wright has now reached base at least twice for the ninth straight game (by hit or walk), while the three runs batted in tied him with Darryl Strawberry for the Mets’ all-time RBI record: David...

MMO Roundtable: Does David Wright Deserve An Extension?

A team source told Andy Martino of the Daily News that a contract extension for David Wright is not on the “front burner” right now, but added that his gut feeling was that a new contract extension would get done. Today, David Wright eclipsed another franchise record with his three RBI against the Braves this afternoon, tying Darryl Strawberry for the most RBI in Mets history...

Life is about to get tougher for the Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks were my pick to win the NL West before this season, and I'd say about 55% of people had the same general opinion as me. They're off to a 7-5 start right now, second in the division, but their season is going to get a lot more interesting in the next month or so. Yesterday, the Diamondbacks placed center fielder Chris Young on the DL with a slight...

Without stars, D-backs' offense has gone dark

PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks are still trying to work through the loss of top offensive threats Chris Young and Justin Upton. It is not easy in itself, and Atlantas young pitching is not helping. Right-hander Brandon Beachy was as unhittable in a 9-1 victory Friday as left-hander Mike Minor was in a 10-2 victory the night before, and the D-backs are now in the midst of their longest...

Arizona Outfield Is Ailing

Many questioned the Arizona Diamondbacks' acquisition of Jason Kubel this winter, but the added outfield depth is key now that star outfielders Chris Young and Justin Upton are both missing time due to injury. Top prospect A.J. Pollock is also being counted on to help with the outfield situation.
