Utah State athletic director Scott Barnes has been chosen as the NCAA Division I basketball committee chairman for 2014-15. He's already on the committee and will spend this season as the vice chairman to Wake Forest athletic director Ron Wellman. Barnes played basketball at Fresno State and went on to play professionally in Germany, then began his coaching career at the high school and club levels. He also served as general manager of the Fresno Flames of the World Basketball League. Eventually, he made stops as an athletic administrator at San Diego, Pacific, Iowa State, Humboldt State, Eastern Washington and Washington before landing his current job at Utah State, where he's spent the past five seasons.

Indians Zach McAllister, pitched 7-2/3′s of shut out baseball for Cleveland. He’s the new ace on the staff.

The Indians continue to be pleasantly surprised, each time they send Zach McAllister to the  mound. Last night he pitched 7-2/3′s innings of shut out baseball. The Tribe has a new win streak started and they took 2 games in a row from the Oakland A’s. The Indians offense only scored one run in last nights game, with the way McAllister was pitching that was all they needed. The...

Salazar's encouraging start has him on way to Columbus

Akron Aeros’ right-hander Danny Salazar spent the offseason working out with Ubaldo Jimenez, but Tribe fans needn’t be concerned. Salazar, 23, has fared better than Jimenez this season, as he is presently 2-3 with a 2.67 ERA and a 51:10 K:BB. In three appearances from April 20-May 2, Salazar didn’t allow an earned run. On Tuesday, his final start with the Aeros, he tossed...

Cleveland Indians talk – trying not to talk attendance, Swisher’s intangibles, Francona and Ubaldo and more with TD – WFNY Podcast – 2013-05-09

We did talk briefly about the attendance, but really not much at all. We’ve both agreed that it shouldn’t dominate the headlines a second year in a row. Lackluster attendance and how tired we are of talking about it Bud Shaw’s article about the long-term project TV ratings and how far they’re up year over year You can’t get the pulse of casual fans that stopped...

Second Thoughts Game #31: A's 3, Indians 4

The Indians catch a break Unless my admittedly questionable eyesight is failing desperately theAdam Rosales homerun/double call and later review may have been the most abysmal, egregious call I have seen in a long time. How this crew failed to correct the call on the field and reward Rosales with a homerun is beyond me. However, fortunately for Chris Perez and the Indians this...

Second Thoughts Game #32: Indians 9, A’s 2

It’s been nearly four years since Scott Kazmir last struck out 10 batters in a game. To put that in context, a teenager who was just starting college back then—August 26, 2009, to be exact—could conceivably be preparing for his graduation this weekend. That’s an awful lot of space between two bookends. But before we get back to the phoenix that is the Tribe’s veteran...

Indians Nick Swisher & Carlos Santana, hit back to back 6th inning home runs, to propel the Tribe past the A’s

The Cleveland Indians just won their 3rd game in a row over the Oakland A’s giving the Tribe its 9th win out of their last 10 games. Tonight it was Justin Masterson who took to the mound for his Tribe. Masterson was struggling and so was the Indians offense. The A’s looked like they were going to take this game until  Nick Swisher & Carlos Santana hit solo shots in the 6th...

Indians activate OF Michael Bourn

CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Indians activated starting center fielder Michael Bourn from the 15-day disabled list after sweeping a four-game series from Oakland. Bourn had been sidelined since slicing open his right index finger while diving into first base on April 14. He was eligible to return on April 30, but the cut didn't heal in time and Bourn needed some extra time. Bourn is...

Indians' McAllister and 2 relievers blank A's 1-0

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Zach McAllister and two relievers combined on a shutout and the Cleveland Indians scored an unearned run in the fifth inning for their eighth win in nine games, 1-0 over the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night. McAllister, Rich Hill and Chris Perez limited the highest-scoring offense in the majors to six hits and did not allow a runner to reach second base. McAllister...

IBI Hot List: 4/29/13 - 5/6/13

The IBI Hot List is back for another week and recaps the hot (and some cold) performances in the Indians system over the past week. The top 20 performances over the past seven days are ranked with some commentary, and the five worst showings are also ranked with some commentary there as well. This week I take a look at the hot showing by shortstop Francisco Lindor, outfielder LeVon...

5/8 Recap: A's - Indians

Player of the Game The Indians ace showed his stuff once again tonight, pitching seven innings and striking out seven to earn his fifth win of the season. Masterson wasn't perfect, giving up three runs, all in the fourth inning, but other than that was fantastic. His final POG score was 4.70, his best start of his last five. Feathers Up The Indians needed some luck...

Minor Happenings:

In this week’s Minor Happenings, Tony talks about the rapid growth of Danny Salazar and his alleged promotion to Columbus and what he needs to work on. He also looks at the return of Matt LaPorta and if his showing to date is any different from last year, provides some detailed comments from the front office on Trevor Bauer’s progression as a pitcher as well as the 411 on extended...

MLB Admits It Got Home Run Call Wrong in Athletics-Indians Game, But Results Won’t Change

CLEVELAND — Major League Baseball says the umpires were wrong. That doesn’t help the Oakland Athletics. One day after umpire Angel Hernandez and his crew failed to reverse an obvious home run by A’s infielder Adam Rosales following a video review, MLB executive vice president Joe Torre said an “improper call” was made in the ninth inning of Wednesday’s game between the...

The Cleveland Indians couldn’t be stopped by Bartolo Colon either, they swept the Oakland A’s.

The Cleveland Indians have another winning streak going. They have now won 10 of their last 11 games. Today they beat former Indians pitcher Bartolo Colon and they beat him badly. The Indians knock Colon all over the park and out of the game in the 4th inning. By the time Colon realized his day was over the Indians had scored, 6 earned runs on the big man. Colon couldn’t get it...

Indians-Tigers Preview

Coming off another impressive performance last weekend, the Detroit Tigers' Max Scherzer appears to be at the top of his game. So do the AL Central rival Cleveland Indians, who could become all the more formidable with Michael Bourn back atop their lineup. Looking to win a fourth consecutive start and stay unbeaten, Scherzer tries to slow down the surging Indians in the opener...
