According to ESPNNewYork.com’s Adam Rubin, Rangers scouts were on-hand for Rick Porcello’s four innings of shutout ball Monday and inquired what it would take to land him.  The Rangers are looking to sure up their fifth starter spot.  With Porcello and Drew Smyly performing well thus far in camp, it would appear that one of them (more likely Porcello) will be dealt before Opening Day.  No word on the Tigers’ response to the Rangers’ inquisitions. According to cbssports.com’s Danny Knobler, the Tigers are “pushing hard” to acquire a closer through trade.  From my speculation, various potential options are Boston’s Andrew Bailey, Arizona’s (Trenton native and Michigan alum) J.J. Putz and the Cubs’ Carlos Marmol.  Ideally, I would love to land one of Washington’s relievers (Drew Storen or Tyler Clippard), but they have told teams they don’t want to deal either.  Of the others mentioned, I would rank them Putz, Bailey and Marmol in that order.  It’s interesting that the Tigers have already seemed to have given up on rookie Bruce Rondon, general manager Dave Dombrowski was almost arrogantly adamant about all offseason.  Through 3 and 2/3 innings this spring, Rondon has given up five hits, three earned runs, five walks and struck out six.  Quick trigger?  It appears that way. According to ESPNChicago.com, the Tigers are said to be taking a “hard look” at Marmol who saved 20 games of the Cubs with a 3.42 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in 2012.  After being absolutely filthy in 2007 and 2008, Marmol has been solid in one season (2010) of the last four.  Would I give up Porcello or Smyly for him?  Nope.
