Tigers picher and reigning American League Most Valuable Player and Cy Young award winner Justin Verlander is ready to relinquish his MVP award.  But he doesn’t want just anyone to have it.  Tuesday before the Tigers’ tilt with the White Sox, JV was sporting a t-shirt supporting Cabrera in the MVP race.  He posted a picture of himself on his Twitter account.

Verlander spoke about Cabrera’s biggest competitor in the MVP voting, Angels rookie center fielder Mike Trout.  ”I know Trout’s had an unbelievable year,” Verlander said. “He’s a great player. But he’s not the guy in that lineup that you go into the game and say, ‘We’re not going to let him hurt us.’

“He is,” Verlander said while pointing to Cabrera. “And he still does it.”

Coming into Tuesday’s games, Trout was hitting .328 with 17 home runs, 77 RBIs, 45 stolen bases and 113 runs scored.  He leads the American League in batting average, steals and runs.

Cabrera was hitting .326 with 35 home runs and 116 RBIs – good for second in the American League in batting average and RBIs and fourth in home runs.

Verlander said he was planning on getting the t-shirts for the entire team.
